Default Green Arrow TV Show In The Works

The CW's ongoing desire for another DC-comics derived series to replace their long-serving Smallville has brought them to Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow. The network is reportedly locking down the details of a pilot order for a new show about the liberal bowman, with Greg Berlanti, who produced and scripted the Green Lantern movie filling the same roles here.

None of this sounds particularly encouraging so far, does it?

I'm curious as to what kind of Green Arrow we could get out of a CW series: How old would he be? Would he dress up like a fancy dress Robin Hood? Will he have that focus-group unfriendly facial hair?

And, perhaps most importantly, how boldly will they tackle the politics? As well as the character's roots in political mythmaking, Oliver Queen is also, explicitly, a politician, so the issue can't be ducked entirely without some significant rewiring.

The character did appear in Smallville, but while this new show has the same home network and production company, Warner Bros. TV, it has different producers and, really, I don't know that the existing TV Queen could just be spun out into a show of his own. I'm pretty sure we'll be looking at a fresh start here.

As we well know, a pilot doesn't necessarily mean the show will make to air. We'll keep you in the loop.

It would be cool if it was the Smallville Green Arrow and that universe can continue. Whether you like it or not, it certainly has its fans.

He was a politician for a tiny amount of his existence. The 'issue' can be ducked simply by writing him not as a politician.

Yeah, that's just a bizarre statement.

yes, yes and yes! GA a fav of mine have been waiting for a medium to appreciate him in other than action figure. Don't let Jt Krull near this version or i'll break his fingers myself!
who do you think would be a good casting for GA?

Even though the character had his faults in Smallville (well, I figured at least) it did make sense to be a good character to run his own show.

I don't see WB ever doing a Batman TV show but with GA you have the opportunity to do a Batman like brooding character.

Maybe they'll re-jigger that Supermax movie script with GA in the super-villain prison into a tv show. That would be cool.

Why does everyone keep saying the guy from SMALLVILLE should star in this? He...was not so good. And while this show may not be based on the comic(and WTF is up with that?) one would hope it would AT LEAST be a closer adaptation than what we got with Smallville. A GA based on Denny O'Neil or Mike Grell's version would make for an awesome hourlong TV show.
Kevin T Brown and Dawnelldo like this.

Well, the new comic book GA seems to be based a bit on the Smallville version, so around and around it goes I guess.

Because they thought he was good? Certainly he wouldn't suit a gritty Grell GA, but as a young hunk type he seemed fine.

I'd like a Silver Age GA, all arrowcar and cave, Xeen Arrow and Miss Arrowette! A Christopher Nolan approach would be my idea of hell.
