Default The Trailer For Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom Is Everything You'd Expect It To Be

Fans and detractors of Wes Anderson alike will find everything they expect in this trailer for Moonrise Kingdom, a film that appears on current evidence to be a sort of hip 1960s-period romantic mystery.

If the transition to stop motion couldn't disguise the overall Wes Andersonness of The Fantastic Mr. Fox, making a period picture sure as heck wasn't going to either. Particularly not when that period is the same pseudo 60s he steeped every single one of his previous films in anyway, no matter when their stories were supposedly taking place.

Anderson's co-writer on the picture is Roman Coppola, but whatever contributions he may have made to the film overall, his work towards this trailer doesn't stand out quite as much as that of the dolly grips. "Aaaaaaaaaaaand puuuuuuuuuuuuuuuush!"

Moonrise Kingdom is released in the US on May 25th. Smells like a Cannes premiere to me.

You can see the trailer in HD at Apple.

    Predictably, it looks awesome!

Wes is easily my favorite living filmmaker.

I love Anderson but am a little sad he's writing with Coppola instead of Wilson these days. Darjeeling Limited doesn't hold up for me.

Mr. Fox was amazing though and I was anxiously awaiting his next movie.

It was different, but I think that's a good thing.
It wasn't instant love between me and Darjeeling, like all his others, but it really grew on me.

I've only seen it twice, so maybe upon further viewings. I haven't bought it yet, but if it has a commentary track that might give me some more insight to help appreciate it more.

Can't wait. I just love his films. That said, why do they even bother mentioning that it is directed by Wes Anderson in the trailer? Is there anyone in the world who wouldn't figure that out?!

This looks really good, and that's coming from someone who can't stand Wes Anderson's films. I think they're written well and filmed well, but I usually hate his casting. Jason Schwartzman acts about as well as Rob Liefeld draws.

I did like The Royal Tenenbaums though. A lot.

Woohoo! It feels like such a long time after Fantastic Mr Fox and, while that was a high-quality diversion, it's great to see Anderson back to doing what he does best. Still wont be better than Rushmore, though.
