Default First Image Of Nicholas Hoult As The Zombie Lead Character Of Warm Bodies

Jonathan Levine is following up the rather pleasing 50/50 with an adaptation of Isaac Marion's novel Warm Bodies. Here's the blurb I ran previously:
America has fallen and zombies have risen. A young member of the undead with no identity of his own picks up the vestiges of one from tucking into a brain and experiencing its owner?s memories. Spurred on by this second-hand perspective, the troubled zombie embarks on an odd and unexpected relationship with his victim?s former girlfriend.

This "troubled zombie" - is there any other kind? - goes by the single initial R. Like, you know - Romeo. His girlfriend is called Julie, too - I'm not kidding.

R will be played by Nicholas Hoult. Here's our first official image of him, as released by the PR elves of Summit Entertainment.

Incidentally, Teresa Palmer is playing Julie. I wonder if there's a Rosie too? I know that R's shuffling compadre is called M, as in Mercutio.

As well as the pic, Collider also have a full blurb for the film detailing, in part, R's ambitious sounding plan to get together with Julie. It involves improving his posture and taking care of his appearance a little. A lot of guys could probably learn from him:
Desperate to see her, R decides to comb his hair, stand a little straighter, and impersonate a human long enough to get past the city guards. If only he can prove to the humans that Zombies can change, maybe R and Julie?s love might stand a chance. But with the rampaging Boneys heading toward the city and Julie?s father intent on killing R and his Zombie friends, the stage is set for an all-out battle between the living and the undead.

Warm Bodies will be with us in August.

It's actually a pretty brilliant book and nothing like Twilight and similar supernatural romance books/films at all; it's a story about the strength of humanity despite the desolation of society, and it gets quite twisty. I interviewed the author, Isaac Marion, last year about the book and the differences in the adaptation - he seemed like a great guy. And one with an interesting publishing story too.

I hope the film doesn't screw it up, but it is being adapted and directed by Jonathan Levine so there's hope. Zombie films tend to go one way or the other, and a lot of the assumptions about this one could lead reviewers to feel misled. Or pleasantly surprised.

It can't be any worse than Zombie Honeymoon

    Zombie Honeymoon (2004) - IMDb

"Zombie Honeymoon is a gore-soaked exploration of how far the boundaries of true love can be pushed without reaching a breaking point."

I think two genres just performed a coordinated jump over a zombie shark with piercing, romantic, black doll's eyes...
