Default How Many Movie Title Cards Do You Recognise In This Music Video For Buck 65's Superstars Don't Love?

I bet most of you could recognise a movie's opening credits by the actors or the music, but how many of you can name a film just by looking at its typography?

This music video for Buck 65's Superstars Don't Love was created by designer Travis Hopkins using Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects, and pays homage to 69 famous title cards for films including The Royal Tenenbaums, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, Star Wars and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Hopkins' inspiration came after listening to the song andbeing "immediately inspired by the flow of the lyrics."
I'm a huge fan of movie title and poster design from the '70s and '80s and thought this would be the perfect match for a video.

I've been working in the motion graphics design world for eight years. In that time, I've done my fair share of kinetic type animations. Often clients want nothing more than a bold Helvetica font flying and spinning around the screen. With Superstars Don't Love, I wanted to show that kinetic type animation could be more about design than just your average "see and say."

    Here are a few examples.

Each title has been replaced with a lyric from the song, so while some (like "Super Stars: Episode 65") are easy to guess, most of them rely almost entirely upon you recognising the typography used and the style or content of the background image. I like to think of myself as something of a film buff, but most of these left me stumped. How many can you recognise?

For a full description of how the music video was created, read an interview with Travis Hopkins over at Art of the Title.

I seem to recall Dan Black doing much the same for his Symphonies video a couple of years ago
