Just yesterday, I was telling you how secretive the James Bond producers were being about the full nature of Ralph Fiennes' role in Skyfall. Let's modify that, then, and say now that they might be being considerably less secretive when speaking anonymously.
Fiennes has said that he's playing "a government agent" in the film, but he was not permitted to say any more. A source "inside the studio" has reportedly been on the leak, however, apparently telling Movieweb the specific stature and role of this character:Ralph Fiennes plays a government agent, which we never get a name on, because he is set to play the new M.
The report adds that Judi Dench's M is going to be called on to train Fiennes' one.
Maybe Dench has gotten a bit bored of the role, maybe EON thought it was time for a change, or maybe "our M" comes back at the end after the corrupt newbie is caught out and their conspiracy is untangled.
According to the official plot blurb for the film:In Skyfall, Bond?s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
Seems odd to me that MI6 would keep on an old M to train a newbie after she's transgressed enough to be pushed out, but anyway, I've only got part of the picture at best. Perhaps it will all make sense in... what is it now? 296 days?
