Default First Trailer For Upside Down Looks Wonderful, Imaginative, Surprising

Canal+ have premiered the first trailer for the sci-fi fantasy Upside Down, a romantic thriller across two worlds, each one hanging upside down in the sky of the other.

Jim Sturgess and Kirsten Dunst star. Juan Solanas has directed, and with a real eye for a striking image.

It's good to see this kind of imagination at work.

This concept does feel imaginative, though I think they're wasting a cool concept on what appears to be just a love story.I think a more epic story could be built around this instead of a Romeo and Juliet type tale.

What makes a love story a waste? Surley love stories are amongst the most resonant and valuable?

While I'm not a fan of love stories, I'm not saying they're a waste.I'm saying it would be wasted to come up with this cool sci-fi/fantasy concept and only use it for a starcrossed love story that's been done over and over.

To say a love story has been done over and over is like saying action films or horror films have been done over and over. It's barely even a plot. It's a genre. You ever hear a woman who says she doesn't like all action films and you can't fathom it? It's the same thing. There are great stories to be told in both. And this looks like a nice twist on a familiar tale that I am sure will bring great ideas to light.

I think it is refreshing to get a science fiction with a love story at it's heart. It's rarely done and often doesn't happen because "Love stories are for girls" and "Science Fiction is for boys" so they can't exist together.

Exactly. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind is a love story. But it is one of the greatest, most imaginative films ever made. This film looks like it can be the MUST film of the year.

Also, Inception and The Adjustment Bureau fall in the same category of love story set in a science-fiction setting. As a matter of fact, Upside Down looks like it is in this exact same sub-genre.
