The latest draft of the 24 movie script is being written by Mark Bomback, also the man behind the most recent pass on The Wolverine. He's apparently being expected to be hand his 24 reversion in by the end of the year, so that Fox and Imagine Entertainment can set about crewing it up ready for a spring production shoot.
According to Deadline, the plan is for the film to shoot in Kiefer Sutherland's next available "window" which, they say, begins in April.
Sutherland is the only actor so far named in association with the film, but I imagine lots more familiar faces will crop up. What's more, I'd bet that the filmmakers stunt cast the villain with a well-known-but-probably-more-so-for-serious-roles name. Derek Jacobi, anyone?
Previously, Tony Scott was attached to direct but he's now moved on, and the studio are now at their "shortlist" stage of appointing a director who will actually take the film forward. Or, to put it another way, let's all get ready for one of the trades to publish a list of five directors that Fox want for this thing, and then for at least three of those directors to say publicly that they've heard nothing about it.
This wishlist is bound to crop up soon. I hope it's as hilarious as the Die Hard 5 one which featured one of those funny nerds from The Adam and Joe Show.
