Should the heat go off of vampires in the time it takes Turf to make it into cinemas, the adaptation of Jonathan Ross and Tommy Lee Edwards' comics will still have plenty of those perennially popular gangsters and aliens to balance things out somewhat.
And that's not to mention the comic's own specific story, which Rich has described as "beautifully brutal" and rewarding of "dedicated, concentrated reading".
Deadline have reported that WME have closed a deal for a big screen adaptation of Turf with the production company Benderspink. This deal has actually been in the works for a good while, since before Ross was with WME, and we understand that Illuminati Entertainment and Harris Miller played a strong hand in setting the project up too.
It's very early days so there's no indication of who might write the screenplay or direct the feature film. Some linked Matthew Vaughn to the project, once upon a time, but his plate is pretty full.
The comic is notoriously text heavy, so I can't help but imagine any film having a real Howard Hawks-style rat-a-tat to the dialogue delivery. Who does that kind of stuff well these days?
Ross and Edwards have apparently been kicking around the ideas for a Turf comicbook sequel. Chances are, with the relative turnaround speeds of the two media, we'll get a look at that before any film turns up.
