Forum Bugs and what to do about them

Bug reports now go here, where I will periodically update the known list in the master article.

Where To Take Your Issues

As Bleeding Cool has grown, we've refined the chain of command a bit. As we grow more, we want to keep things in their appropriate place so that everyone is on the same page and things get handled appropriately.

How to Handle an Offensive/Insulting Post

Use the report function (you can see it on the left hand of the post, under the poster's username; it is a triangle with a ! in it). DO NOT private message any mods or admins.

The reason for this is simple: using the report function generates an e-mail that goes out to every moderator and administrator. Meaning that, in most cases, whoever sees it first will deal with it. This also provides us with a direct link to the post in question. Which is very important, since not all of us have the forums set up to display the same number of posts per page.

For more on reporting posts, including what consitutes a post that should be reported, see this thread: http://www.bleedingcool.com/forums/t...iscussion.html

How to Handle Issues with Articles/Site Posts

This includes things like articles posted to the site that do not have a forum post associated with them or typos, etc.

Post them in this thread: http://www.bleedingcool.com/forums/f...-articles.html

Note: that thread is only for typos, incorrect information and/or the above mentioned problem with front page articles/forum posts. Any post made there that does not relate to those issues will be deleted.

How to Handle Issues with Site Functionality

Basically this applies to anything that runs the forums/site. If you get a virus warning from the site, if you cannot use BB code for some reason, etc. It's the nuts and bolts, mechanics of the site.

Start a thread here: http://www.bleedingcool.com/forums/t...ng-cool-office

Threads will be closed once they have been dealt with (to keep the important issues at the forefront of the forum). Posts not relating to these issues will also be deleted.

How to Handle Issues with Site Administration/Other Users

Problems with policy and the administration of the forum should be raised using the appropriate contact links on bleedingcool.com. Posts grousing about users, moderation, etc. will be deleted as such posts tend to encourage a mob mentality and are not constructive to handling actual personality conflicts.

And when in doubt, remember, if you have problems interacting with another user: no one says you have to.

Bleeding Rules

The Bleeding Rules

1. Be excellent to one another. If you get in fight, take it outside. Abuse, intolerance and general arsing will be subject to the whims of Rich Johnston and Avatar. Your messages will be deleted, you'll be booted and I'll change your status to something very embarassing. This includes taking arguments across multiple threads; if you get into a dust up with another poster, let it go with the thread it's in.

2. No fan fiction, fan stories, or fan art (and that includes fan art of Avatar-published properties). I'm sorry but the legal complications it might cause for Avatar more than outweigh any benefits. You can posts links, sure, but nothing that actually sees that work on the forums. Sorry. You'll have to find another home for your Harry Potter/Wolverine slashfic.

3. No one questions the validity of the British TV licence fee.

4. Yes, you can swear. But do not make death threats at other forum members, or engage in name-calling. If you threaten other forum members you may be banned, as we do not tolerate such behavior.

5. Please do not post pornographic or nude images on the forums, or images of reproductive anatomy. If you do, you shall be asked to remove them; it's best just to not post it in the first place.

  • Marvel Senior VP Tom Brevoort Gives DC Comics Some Tough Love

Always-outspoken Marvel Senior VP of Publishing Tom Brevoort has been on quite a twitter tirade this week. Just a couple days ago he laid into an unnamed competitor over a subpar book, now he's calling DC out publicly over promotional material for War of the Green Lanterns.

As reported by Robot6 on Wednesday, Brevoort told his twitter followers, that a recent book from a competitor was so bad he used it as an example of what not to do in a Marvel meeting:
There?s more craft evidenced on the plastic bag of FF #587 than on the whole of the issue we read yesterday. One of our editors read it and was appalled by it, so I thought it was worth further study by the group. Sometimes, a bad example teaches more by example. An absolute lack of understanding of character, theme, scene, pacing, lousy tinny dialogue, incompetent artwork?it was just a red hot mess

Many commenters took Brevoort to task for not naming names over that one, and he is more specific in tonight's tweets about DC. Apparently Marvel staff are in the process of sending a book to press, and flipping through Diamond Comics Distributor's Previews Catalog while they wait for the material to upload. About DC's War of the Green Lanterns listing in Previews, Brevoort says:
Official snark-warning! I'm about to say something ridiculous and relatively mean-sounding about the competition, so step away if you like.

But judging from the latest Previews catalog, the first casualties in the War of the Green Lanterns are the inkers and the colorists.

I'm sorry, @GeoffJohns0 --you know I love you, but that is not the way to put your best foot forward on a big storyline. Pencils look nice.

@justinwasson www.dccomics.com I would think. They just basically hastily colored the pencils for the catalog--didn't look good.

@BaronVonZorcula I've got a nice, thick skin. Kinda have to. And really, it's because I want to see DC do well too. I love those characters

You know what? Fair and balanced--the cover to BATMAN: EUROPA #4 is really strong. Great design by Jock.

DC Comics COO Geoff Johns is no shrinking violet on twitter himself, so it'll be interesting to see if he responds publicly.

    This is another test.

I used to really like Brevoort, but the last few years he seems to have become fully devoured by the Marvel machine.

Didn't marvel put out a bunch of director cut type books with no inking or coloring before? Or is that different because they already put out the inked and colored versions first.

Having been the victim of a Brevoort bashing I can say with confidence that Geoff and the rest of the folks at DC aren't losing any sleep over his comments. Having said this, I will await my next Brevoort bashing soon enough.

You seem quite certain you'll get another bashing.

Well, having been completely blindsided by the last one, I just await the bashing even if it would make no sense. I equate a Brevoorgeddon to sort of norm. He's a very outspoken individual and I would sooner be concerned over his silence than anything.

And Marvel wonders why their sales are falling so much.

With so much wrong at Marvel, his time would be much better spent in looking at all of the mediocre to subpar to crappy titles in their own house before going after DC's books.

I'm just wondering why DC don't leave the cover art unfinished in previews (as pencilled work) rather than doing a rush job on "inking" and "colouring" them.
Van Scivers covers hav been made to look quite bad in Previews in the past (due to them not having received the full inking and colouring treatment before being published in a dummy version for Previews).

I'm not defending Brevoort or anything; just pointing out that Green Lantern (and the Sinestro Corps War specials) covers have often looked quite sub-par in previews dues to them using very poorly coloured and inked placeholder versions. Sure the listing states that the image isn't the final cover; but personally I'd much rather an unfinished (but fully penciled) layout than an ugly looking rush job.

Its always easy to find fault in someone else than to find fault in yourself ... or your own work.

So Marvel comics number internet troll strikes again, you'd think he'd know better after his prediction of Siege kicking Blackest Night's ass made him look like an idiot and lost him any last shred of credibility had left. But no he's back again putting his foot in his mouth worrying about the competition who's making him look even more like a buffon than he already is, seriously this guy is the perfect example of why Marvel is in the mess that it's in right now.

I agree wholeheartedly. Brevort and Greenberg were an awesome team back in the days of Untold Tales, and were incredibly gracious to talk to on Marvel's ancient AOL chatrooms and boards. For years he honestly seemed like a guy who didn't edit a book that didn't reflect his own values and likes in Superhero comics. Then somewhere around the time of Bendis taking over Avengers, that guy died. It almost comes across as Brevoort had to evolve into a "love everything Marvel puts out to the nth degree or get your ass fired" yes-man in order to keep his job. And he's sure done a good job of it. His hatred of DC now reeks of a guy who wanted to marry DC, got rejected by them, and returned to his abusive lover of Marvel and spends his time throwing eggs at DC's house while he's got a black eye, bloody nose, and is missing teeth.

Does anyone know if there is a scan of this around?

However, the bottom line is Marvel and DC are rival publishers in a two-horse race - he is obviously going to talk up Marvel's line of products and you are going to have a few digs at the opposition.

That said it does feel like good-natured banter got personal somewhere along the line. It does seem to be at the point where they aren't going to be able to work together in the near future, which is a pity.

At this point I think there is only one way to settle this:

if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

First off, he practically points to what could only be one of a few people. Then he basically calls it rushed and idiotic. Then he tells whoever edited it would have a hard time getting a job at marvel.

So all he's saying is that the competition he's up against put out a book he won't name but willing to bash? All he's doing is chucking eggs.
