DC Makes Hundreds Of Comics Returnable

Recently, DC Comics began making digital versions of their print comics available from around 3am on the day of publication several hours ahead of the time when comic stores were allowed to start selling them.

Naturally, there were upset retailers.

In response, DC have announced that they will allow limited returns of DC titles, ordered by retailers during that period.

Retailers are now allowed to return 15% of the originally ordered comics, from the list below, that went on salefrom November 14th through to January 30th.

Indeed. While it's certain that digital sales have hurt comic shop sales (I've pretty much stopped going to comic shops altogether since getting into comixology), the exact timing of the digital release really doesn't matter. You're either going to choose to buy digital, or buy physical, regardless of when it comes out.

I went digital only well before this switchover. For me it just means I can read my comics before work, rather than waiting until sometime in the afternoon. It's convenience, but I haven't bought a physical comic for myself since the new 52 started and DC went day and date.

Agreed. I buy via Comixology because I want a digital copy, not because it comes out first. I wouldn't buy the physical copy either way.

I haven't made the switch to digital completely yet, because I can still get most of my comics cheaper when I order through previews. There's also some books i'm reading that aren't digital yet.

But I do want to go all digital. I find it ridiculous that digital versions are the same price as printed copies at retail, just to appease the stores, but until publishers wake up and start making the digital prices reasonable, I'll order my books a couple months in advance and save myself 35%. Digital needs to make a push to be reasonably priced and the market for it will increase.
