Default A Day Of Meetings At DC Comics

If you are a comics creator, trying to get in touch with your DC editor, today might not be the best day to try and do so.

I am told that today, at its 1700 Broadway offices, there will be a series of meetings at DC Comics, first individually with many employees, and then a group meeting with all employees in the afternoon to outline DC's new plan.

All I've been told is that this involves efficiency measures as a result of monitoring since April this year.

Now this is the kind of thing that could lead to redundancies, and does bears some similarity to the events during DC's big reorganisation a few years ago, but I have been assured by DC Publicity that "DC has no plans to announce any redundancies".

    So there's that.

Whether this involves a further move to Burbank, a move down the street, a change in publishing priorities, an end to Vertigo, the elevation of Jim Lee to become official King Of America, I don't know. But I expect to start hearing leaks a little later today.

Well, of course. You don't "announce" redundancies.

You just quietly fire people and have security escort them from the building.

Best of luck to all involved. Can't be a fun day for anyone, including Marvel.

So they are not going to fire a lot of people and replace them with interns like Marvel did?

So if Vertigo is ending will we get the New52 version of Fables? I am pretty sure that Bigby Wolf, being both magic and, well, Bigby Wolf, could take Superman easily.

Wait until you see all the lines on Bigby's swell new Jim Lee-designed outfit! And the collar! It won't even be one for a dog!*

Publicity can say what it likes, but those first three paragraphs scream "somebody's getting fired". Exactly three weeks before Christmas, too.

Of course, someone could be having Rich on, but if I worked in DC Editorial, I'd be discreetly updating my LinkedIn page, just in case.

From personal experience, layoffs tend to come at the end of the year, because it makes budgeting easier.

That said, Karen Berger aside, I'm still hoping this is primarily a re-org with minimal loss of jobs.

Also (and I say this only to counter-balance some of the snarkiness on the thread), Jim Lee is a badass. We all want to be Jim Lee.

Maybe that's because in the US we call them "layoffs".
