Given how terribly Hellblazer's been selling despite the great job Milligan, Camuncoli and Landini have been doing, I was expecting DC to relaunch it and maybe reboot it soon, but replacing it with a PG-13 version is just sad. With American Vampire about to enter a hiatus, it seems Fables, The Unwritten, Saucer Country (which doesn't seem to be long for this world, unfortunately) and Fairest will be the only remaining Vertigo monthlies for the foreseeable future.

Make of that what you will.

basic common sense goes a long way. The hellblazer fan base shouldn't be shocked by this.

I don't know about the trades, but monthly, I think it sells about six or seven thousand, something like that? Even though Milligan's run's been arguably the best in years, if not decades.

It's a shame to see Vertigo John go, but I suppose it may be that whoever they've got writing him next came up with a pitch that could just as well have fitted into the mainstream DC universe, where, handled half-decently, he does work as a character. And where, if nothing else, he's likely to shift more units.

Plus demon blood or not, Vertigo John must be pushing sixty by now; perhaps it really is now time for the hookah pipe and slippers?

And it might be vaguely interesting to see what mainstream DC keeps of his history, and what it throws away. I guess I'll try it for a couple of issues, anyway.

Hmmm, I have to admit that my enthusiasm for the Nu52 PG-13 version of Constantine was in no small way helped by the fact that a "purer" version was still being published in Hellblazer. Not sure how I feel about the Nu52 version being the only model on offer.

One of the things i like about Hellblazer is the history that has built up around Constantine. A younger version of John just wont feel the same.
Dont get me wrong, i`ll give it a go, but its sad to see a series so much a part of Vertigo finally stopping.

I love what companies have done over the last decade, they've turned what used to be "fans" into armchair executives.

"Hooray! Finally DC will be able to get their profit margin index into the top chart slot for the 18-25 male market!"

Who the f*ck are you people? Since when did the people on the bottom become champions for Time Warner's shareholders? Don't you care about story, characters or creativity?

"Hey Firefly had terrible ratings, it was pretty smart for FOX to cancel it."

Or I love people who defend the incredibly subpar Walking Dead television show saying, "You know, even though its not that good we have to watch it, so that other zombie shows will get on the air." Whatever happened to actually liking good thing that are good?

Unbelievable, the corporations have made you gleeful little bootlickers, "WHATEVER IS BEST FOR COMPANY, I LIKE."
