Yes, there is a default reason why it shouldn't - you cannot present something that you have no experience of as realistic. You need a real world reference point for it to be realistic. We don't have a real world reference point for aliens, therefore, you don't have to abide by the rules of realism in presenting them.
Now, given that she is an alien woman, I can agree that there should be some sensitivity given how they are portrayed, but it really isn't remotely the same as suggesting that a human woman should, for example, spend her life in the kitchen. It is a pretty major difference.
The biggest issue I had with her portrayal was that it came at the same time as 'Tiny Titans' was being published, and new 'Teen Titans Go' shorts were on Cartoon Network, meaning that kids familiar with the awesome version of Starfire who wanted to get into regular comics would be being handed a book that was not only problematic in terms of gender representation, but was also badly written.
