Exactly. And that's why Didio's comment is ludicrous. Alan Moore doesn't want them to write other books in the Watchmen universe because he wants the artistic integrity of the book intact.

Hogwash. I reject Moore's notion that he is the only true "artiste" working in comics and that everyone else is a dirty whore just doing it for the money. Moore has made a complete career out of working on projects based on other people's work, most recently NEONOMICON from Avatar, which is based on Lovecraft's mythos.

When one of the creators is vehemently against the idea and the other only grudgingly and ambiguously comments on it, one would assume any artist doing it out of pure respect for the source would decline the job out of respect for the creators. Interviews indicate that JMS, at the very least, doesn't seem to be doing it out of a deep-seated fondness for the source.

Do you think any of the authors that created the characters that Alan Moore "stole" for LOST GIRLS would be happy with how he wrote them? How about the original authors of the cast in LOEG? I wonder how Robert Mayer would feel to see how Moore has ripped off his SUPERFOLKS novel countless times without credit.

And again, beside the point. Dan suggests Moore succeeded because of Superman, and Swamp Thing (who he fundamentally rewrote), and Green Lantern. I say he succeeded in spite of it. It could have been Spider-Man or Miracleman or Little Lulu. He just made use of the tools available.

If Dan is so fond of love letters.... why does he keep returning mine to sender?!? Why must you deny our love Dan!? And what about our child?!?
