Default David Finch Teams With Gregg Hurwitz On Dark Knight

As well as Before Watchmen, DC continue to tease their June comics with writer Gregg Hurwitz taking over from Paul Jenkins as writer on Batman: The Dark Knight from issue 10, with David Finch remaining as artist.

Horwitz is known for a variety of writing - comics such as Foolkiller MAX, Punisher MAX, Wolverine and the current Penguin: Pain And Prejudice, novels such The Tower, The Program and You're Next and writing and producing season two of V.

And it looks like he'll be taking on The Scarecrow...

So much for all the long-range plans Jenkins was talking about recently. I wonder why DC's current writers even think in terms of anything longer than an issue or two any more....

Well something must have happened between Jenkins and DC since he wanted to stay on Stormwatch and has finished Deadman. So he apparently doesn't have anything anymore at DC. So either they're planning something else that should be a tiny bit important to him or they had some sort of fallout.

I've not read anything by Hurwitz but I do wonder whether there are any writers who aren't "acclaimed" these days...

At first they thought about putting "writer and producer of the reviled remake of the series V" but in the end, they went against it. Can't see why really...

While V sucks, some of his solo prose fiction is decent. Of course, the same could be said about Duane Swierczynski and I find his comic writing not so great.

I've thought since even before the relaunch that Batman: The Dark Knight was one Batman book too many (or arguably two). They've had some interesting creators on it in its short tenure, including Hurwitz, but it was conceived as a vanity project for Finch and its never quite shaken its sense of superfluousness to me. This is strictly a pick-it-up-during-a-crossover book for me.

DCE needs to terminate their exclusive contract with Finch – his art is not all that good and he can't write – and cancel this mess of a book.

Get rid of THE DARK KNIGHT and (to keep the number at 52 monthlies) release a BATMAN FAMILY monthly written by Bryan Q. Miller.
