As much as I'd love to back Slott when going up against Byrne... I've got to side with Byrne. When I read the issue that was what I thought happened. It was completely implied in my opinion. Slott can make all the excuses he wants, but first off... Marrying Doc Ock is not a traditional marriage. And we see one panel, but who knows how much Peter saw. And sure she's old but she can still take a wedding dress or just have it hiked up (ewww, beat you to it). Yeah, I think Slott originally intended it to be the way Byrne and a lot of people took it and is not just backpeddling hard.
After reading the Slott and Byrne back-and-forth above, I had a flash that it got so intense that the two of them electronically grabbed each other and had a long, passionate kiss.
Now I can't get that image out of my mind.

It's surprises me more than anything that while the Action porno scene is a great example of Byrne being a hypocrite, there is a much, MUCH better example of doing exactly this type of scene: Comic Book Legends Revealed #365 | Comics Should Be Good! @ Comic Book Resources
Slott can try to backpedal and hula-dance his way out of this all he wants, but he clearly was angling for the reader to walk away with "Holy crap, Peter saw Aunt May get it on with Doc Ock." He should stop trying to insult our intelligence and just own up to it. Of course, putting the brakes on intelligence insulting would also require him to leave the title which hasn't been good nor funny since the first day he took the gig, but that's a different discussion.
BUT, in his defense of this matter...all of this villifying is being cast in the wrong direction. Dan Slott can write whatever he wants. Why throw HIM under the bus when it was the EDITORS who read this script and said, "Oooh! That's clever!" The editors knew this would cause buzz and controversy and, potentially, sales, so they let it slide.
Sure, it's bad writing. Garbage filler is what we've come to expect from Dan Slott.
But it's a poor editorial staff that enables bad writing to see the light of day.

See, I find this scene ridiculously funny and twisted and kudos to Dan for writing it and had I wrote it, I so would own up to it with pride. Except I would've had Destiny's Child Independent Woman playing in the background and timed the lyrics/caption to read this in that panel: "Girl, I didn't know you could get down like that..."![]()
I remember reading this when I was quite young, in fact WCA/AWC was the last time I really enjoyed Byrne's run on a book, even if at that time Viz and Wanda were my favourite couple. I remember having trouble in seeing this scene work. Some things just didn't seem to match up. I thought about whether Wanda castrated him, but then I thougt that she probably might have gone down on him. But there was a big part of me that just couldn't believe this would happen in a Marvel comicbook and in the end I thought she probably just continued scratching and scratched his dick as well.
Ach. We were innocent back then. After all Neonomicon was only a glimmer in Alan Moore's eyes.
