Default Star Trek Into Darkness - Two Teaser Trailers

Patrick Dane writes for Bleeding Cool.

We finally get to see our first glimpses of Star Trek Into Darkness, and it's all framed by Benedict Cumberbatch talking about 'society' and 'illusions' and such. You know, evil stuff.

And here's a second Japanese edit that searching YouTube turned up. There's a different ending - or, perhaps more properly, a second one.

I am pretty sure we can expect that to be the Enterprise at the end. I hope the crew packed their swimming trunks.

Is it just me that thinks that final shot of the hands in the Japanese trailer (it might be in the US one, but I don't remember) is JJ teasing the death of Spock?

Yeah this thing reeks of Wrath of Khan.

So.. are we still guessing Kahn or Gary Mitchell? Blonde science officer sure lends credence toward the Mitchell theory.

That would be a shitty callback. Spock dying in the second film carried so much weight because he had been on board the Enterprise for years alongside Kirk. This would be like killing Spock in the second or third episode.

I suspect it's a nod and a wink with a bit of misdirection.

"I have returned to have my vengeance." Could be Gary Mitchell, I guess.

Gary Mitchell was my bet, long before Karl Urban's slip.

Why would they need to do a reboot if they're just going to do a sequel to the original tv series?

I always thought Gary Mitchell's powers were more cerebral/ psychic. This villain appears more physical, and for me fits the notion of Kahn much better. The ending of the Japanese trailer, although probably misdirection, is also a large nod to STWOK.
