Default My Favourite Images From The Hawkeye Initiative - And One Of My Own

We mentioned this ysterday, a social media-driven satire on the portrayal of women in comic books with people redrawiing certain scenes recast with Hawkeye. Just because. Here are a few of my favourites... and I just had to do one of my own with a famous Emma Frost image from New X-Men, didn't I?

I'm generally in favor of what this initiative represents, but I never like to see even an opinion I agree with taken too far. And so I think items like the Mary Jane one take things too far, because I while I think it's fair to say that men and women should dress and stand and twist in the same ways while in combat situations, there are still fair differences in the way men and women dress and position themselves when sitting around the house.

The one from Catwoman #1 also sorta falls into this category - how a woman might "pose for a photo" which is effectively what she's doing here would differ from how a man would "pose for a photo."

Or at least, these images seem to be more in line with mass media. Now, you can argue that the mass media is doing it wrong too, but I'd think one would want to pick one's battles...

Some of these are just dumb, but I get the point. Pretty much everything from the Zenescope line looks ridiculous.

Ah, "famouse". Isn't that just shorthand for "Mickey Mouse"?

Hm...if they used Spider-Man instead of Hawkeye no one would even know the difference. Most of those poses are ones that Spider-Man twists himself into on a regular basis.

Even if I were to grant this, which I don't, no woman (or man) has ever sat around the house like THAT.

Also, Rich, I don't know whether to praise you or curse you for keeping the camel toe.

yeah but you can explain that away with "science", for a normal human with little to no history of contortion or gymnastics there's no excuse

Forget feminism, this is an awesome way to get me to stop reading comics. We need more Haweye!
