I'm not saying that you are, but the reason guys like me spout out that phrase "]you're not into this because you're secretly into this" is usually from life experience. And I'm not talking just once or twice either. When you start to see patterns form (I'm 38, so we're talking 20 years of sexual history at this point) you can't help but notice certain behaviors. But yes, I realize that does not apply to everyone. But I basically agree with everything you just posted. Although I'll admit it makes me sad that you equate regular old vanilla sex between two guys in the same way as Japanese puke porn and hardcore S/M and scat, but hey...it's your brain.

I am not a fan of slut shaming. A perfect example is how Rush Limbaugh treated Sandra Fluke. But how is what James Gunn wrote the same thing?
And how does his comment about Gambit make him homophobic? He didn't say men in general or anything. He probably wouldn't mind Michael Rosenbaum's balls touching him. I just think this is hugely blown out of proportion, I've seen worse in comics published by Marvel, and movies distributed by Disney or companies under them (they do own Miramax as of 1993, and Touchstone, )

FWIW, I stand by what I said. I didn't call anyone a bigot, I didn't call anyone crazy, I didn't call anyone hateful. When I say someone has a mental issue, I don't mean disorder. I really can't think of a better term, other than an 'ingrained behavior with negative results.' When I say someone has a phobia, I mean a fear that causes someone serious anxiety and in this case, anxiety to the point of nausea.

My concern is that when some people are accused of having a homophobic tendency, they get freaked out to the point of ignoring it. The same goes with misogynist or racist tendencies. I think it's important to separate the thought process from the person. I feel this way because I've had issues with racist and sexist beliefs and I've worked really hard to undo all that.

In terms of Gunn, it's obvious that he doesn't truly believe that Gambit thing. The statement was satirical, which is what I thought and said before. It was just important to me to point out that I thought the statement was homophobic, even if it was made in jest and from a guy who didn't truly believe it.

The people who "turned" (for lack of a better word, we all know nobody really turns) -- some were classmates, some former co-workers, some just friends of friends. And while I wouldn't say they were violently anti-gay sex in their rhetoric, they certainly loved to talk about the potential grossness factor or "ick" factor in guy on guy sex. My straight friends who never brought up gay sex or any kind of "ick factor" involved never experimented, never seemed interested or disgusted. I dunno, I live in California, maybe we live the cliche, hell if I know. I just think the whole thing is silly...I mean, I have some straight porn just because I think a guy in it is hot. I don't freak out because there are vaginas there too, the whole thing seems so prudish and silly to me. But that's just me. But if it makes you feel any better, I would walk out of a room that was showing puke porn or scat too...even I have my limits.

Not every straight man has a reaction of disgust to gay sex. The non-homophobic response would be 'I don't want to do that,' not 'ew gross!'

My wife is a singer and actress so we have a ton of gay friends. Theater people are very open about their sex lives. I've lost count of how many times I've heard the "eww gross" type reaction from gay men when we talk about our sex life. The “omg I could never do that!” when talking about going down on her. Are they heterophobes? Do you not see how ridiculous that is? People have different things they like about sex and different things they think are gross, that doesn't make anyone phobic of anything. It means we're human with individual thoughts and preferences. Not a hive-mind where the PC thought police make sure everything is appropriately sanitized.

As a side note the AP is no longer using homophobe in their official stylebook and thank goodness for that. (There’s an article on Politico if you want to look up the whys.)

As a gay man for whom the majority of his friends are straight men, it is I who call bullshit. My friends are not worried about the PC police. All of them are comfortable in their sexuality and not a one of them cares are reacts like disgusted frat boys at the sight of sexual activity between two guys. If Gunn showed a general disgust for man on man action, then yeah downlikecharlie would have a point. That isn't the case though. Gunn made a joking comment about not wanting another man's balls hitting against him during a 3-way. How many of your straight friends would want that to happen to them? If they didn't, would that suddenly make them homophobic?

All your arguments include the variable of alcohol or substances...which stacks the deck against a proper scientific study.

People do shit that is WAY out of their character when wasted.
