Default First Hellblazer, Now Hellraiser Is Cancelled... To Be Reborn?

Okay, Hellblazer made it to issue 300 before it got its cancellation notice. Interestingly, the original name of the comic wasn't going to be Hellblazer, but Hellraiser until Clive Barker and the studio people got in touch.

Well now Hellraiser is about to have its comic series, created with Clive Barker and Boom! Studios, put down with a nail gun. Six to the head, bam bam bam bam bam bam! Issue 20 out this month is its last, and the sequel mini-series The Road Below ends in January.

But just as Hellblazer is being reborn into the less sweary, less sexy, less interesting Constantine, so Hellraiser will also be reborn. So expect a new Hellraiser #1 of some sort for then...

Though with just as much sex violence and bad language.

Just stop. This is not a matter of a publisher trying something new and purists acting petulantly. Hellblazer has for three hundred issues represented a showcase for adult horror and fantasy. It's been cancelled for no reason other than financial concerns, to be replaced by a book that fits in with whatever Warner Bros considers to qualify as an all ages audience for superheroes. If both were going to be published, a degree of respect for readers would be manifest. DC Warners has made it expressly clear that its comics are, in fact, just for kids now. I have no interest in the priorities of accountants. I'm here for storytelling.

So has anyone read this Hellraiser stuff? Is it any good? I'm about to be short one long running horror comic so I might need to consider giving this one a chance.

We should put you in a room with all of those people who are convinced that DC's books aren't for kids and see who comes out standing.

If you want storytelling without financial concern, write it yourself. Everyone else has to make a living.

Even for BC this seems like a thin excuse for an article. I can see Rich setting this one up "Hmm, Hellblazer cancellation got a lot of views, how can I keep those folks coming back? Oh Hellraiser is also cancelled to be rebooted? NEWS!!"

The first arc was pretty good but then the art started to suck, so I dropped it.
