Default Justiniano Sentenced To Ten Years On Child Pornography Charges

Arrested eighteen months ago, DC comic artist Josue Rivera, better known as Justiano, has been sentenced to ten years on crimes for possession of child pornography.

The court reports that he photo-manipulated images of a ten-year-old relative with pornographic images, including giving the impression she was giving oral sex, and owned a hundred more related photographic images.

His collection was discovered when he gave the wrong USB stick to the funeral director, which should have had photos of his recently deceased father. The funeral director then contacted local authorities.

He was sentenced yesterday to ten years, suspended after three years, with then further years probabatio, He pled guilty to second-degree possession of child pornography, after initially pleading not guilty and trying to get evidence thrown out of court. When asked if had anything to add, he replied "I think I'm good."

    Others may well disagree.

He worked on a large number of DC titles including 52, Beast Boy, Brave And The Bold, Countdown To Mystery, Creeper (and yes, this has already been picked up by a number of places), Day of Vengeance, Brave New World, Doom Patrol, Flash, JLA, Reign in Hell, The Spirit, Star-Spangled War Stories, Superman, Teen Titans: Beast Boy & Girls, Titans and Young Justice.

And this is a Wonder Woman graphic novel that is now never getting published...

    What a victimless crime.

I believe photographing or filming children in sexually explicit situations should be illegal. Obviously. It is abuse.

I even believe possessing such material should be illegal because it creates demand, which leads to the abuse.

However, in this case no child was abused. He should never have been charged.

I think I need a few more details before I really know how I feel about this one (mainly because the article's a bit fuzzy on what he actually did and whether there was actually any real child porn stuff involved).

Either way, the whole thing's more than a little on the sick side, even if the sentence seems a tad excessive.

If all he did was manipulate images, then I'm not sure what crime he committed. He does say he had hundreds more images beyond the ones described, so I assume those are what made the case and the rest were just described to make him look like a bigger pervert for some salacious reason.

Yeah, I really don't know what "and owned a hundred more related photographic images" is supposed to mean: 'Normal' porn? More pictures of his relative? Or more of the stuff that should put him behind bars. It's very unclear.

The link to that news article is driving me nuts. "The artist who created DC Comics' "The Creeper" was the biggest creep of all when it came to child porn, a state prosecutor said Friday."

Is there something we dont know about Steve Ditko, or is a journalist just asleep at the wheel?

'After three years', or for three years?

The sentence may sound harsher than the reality turns out to be.

    Cheers
