I'm not even sure they can impose a sentence like that and/or call it suspended... but I'm foreign.

Over here, if you're banged up for 10 there's a good chance you'll be out on parole in 3-5 anyway...

That's a pretty decent summation for over here as well (unless it's federal time or an aggravated charge, in which case the average - back when I knew such things - was 80% of sentence). However, how you think you understood Rich is also a sentencing structure I have seen before, especially in sex-related cases. A ten year sentence with three years served and seven suspended, pending probation, instead of possible parole is not terribly unusual. If it works like I've seen it work before, though, they'll be looking for any possibility of busting that probation, not excluding paperwork snafu.

Yeah, that makes sense. I once processed a guy in Texas who was being revoked pn what sounds like the same sentencing deal.
