Default Monday Trending Topics: 72 Years Is An Eternity In Comics

It's pretty fun to see DC bringing back the classic Quality Comics titleNational Comics this July, about 72 years after it originally debuted. Of course, Kid Eternity is also a Quality character (and we've seen Quality-related titles The Ray and Blackhawks in the New 52 -- and even a Plastic Man reference, I think), DC acquired the line in the mid-1950s and has used numerous of the characters and titles since then. And of course you know that I never miss a chance to mention golden age and silver age material in trending topics (and fortunately, comics news rarely leaves me lacking the opportunity for long), so I'm hoping that National Comics will keep the Quality connection going with subsequent issues (Uncle Sam, anyone?).

It's time for bleedingcool to compare numbers from last month(March) and past summer. Then all will see that DC now actually moves LESS comicbooks than they did back then! In March their total was about 1.8m while in summer of 2011 it was over 2m for June, July or August! How about that? DCnU is turning out to be a BIG flop but nobody has the guts to say it out loud! What did DC expect since they alienated old fans with all the stupid changes?

    Unit numbers, March 2011 - Feb 2012.

March 2012 DC unit number looks to be around 2.17million. Summer 2011 was the eminently predictable Flashpoint/Nu52 spike.

Anyone else think we should add 'alienated old fans' to the BC drinking game yet?

    Cheers

Forget the whole "Gandhi was Indian" thing, you new quests is to see how many times you can contradict Metamorpho's claims!

Metamorpho and Arrowshaft should share an apartment. They could use longboxes of worthless pre-New 52 DC comics as furniture.

I think just "shaft" is an appropriate term for either of them.

First of all your chart does NOT include March 2012; the total number of comicbooks sold from all companies(around 5.8m) and DC's market share of that(36.1%) makes it around 1.8m for DC in March 2012(NOT 2.17m as you claim) which is much less than the over 2m of the past summer. And there was NO spike in the DC titles this past summer, on the contrary many people did not buy them because they were considered irrelevant or were fill-ins. No matter how many excuses you try to come up with, six short months after the reboot DCnU flops hard!
