Default Swipe File: Fallen Angel And Ruby Rocket

On the left is the cover to Fallen Angel Reborn #3 from IDW, by Nick Runge from 2009. On the right is Ruby Leigh Young from well before that. And she's not happy.

In Swipe File we present two or more images that resemble each other to some degree. They may be homages, parodies, ironic appropriations, jokes, coincidences or works of the lightbox. We trust you, the reader, to make that judgment yourself. If you are unable to do so, please return your eyes to their maker before any further damage is done. The Swipe File doesn?t judge, it?s interested more in the process of creation, how work influences other work, how new work comes from old, and sometimes how the same ideas emerge simultaneously, as if their time has just come. The Swipe File was named after the advertising industry habit where writers and artist collect images and lines they admire to inspire them in their work. It was swiped from the Comic Journal who originally ran this column, as well as the now defunct Swipe Of The Week website.

Should have atleast made an effort to hide it. Can't believe the artist traced the white in the hair too.

Would it kill these swipe artists to reach out to a model to use their photos? They're stealing from other strugling aritsts and models.

Uh it's weird that while Bleeding Cool is running this story they've also got ads for a company that's doing the same thing running on their front page.

Can anyone point me to a previous thread that clarifies how these rip-offs are ethically and/or financially different than Gratino's "work"? Cuz, I'm kinda confused on why IDW isn't up on the gibbet next to Rob. Or if not IDW for publishing the steal, then Runge for perpetrating it.

Seriously. Not trying to burn anyone or re-start a shitstorm. Just looking for a little clarity. Thanks.

Zentai suits? Yeesh. I get claustrophobic just looking at those things.

Because they might not own her likeness rights for the character and she might be more likely to notice and possibly sue?

I love the irony that she's wearing a Phoenix costume -- cosplay itself being essentially a form of swiping, IMNSHO.
