Default Desperately Seeking Harley Quinn - Grace Randolph's Stacktastic!

It's Wednesday, it's breakfast/lunch/dinner/supper/sleep time wherever you are in the world, it must be time for Grace Randolph's Stacktastic look at tomorrow's comics for Bleeding Cool's Think About The Ink. And mostly Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad. Grace Randolph looks at the full history of the character for Bleeding Cool, and DC's attitude towards her.

Then a little first issue action for Conan, Thief Of Thieves, The Ninjettes, Kevin Keller and Adventure Time.

As long as the world has cosplayers, there will always be a place for Harley Quinn.

And do the Ninjettes really deserve this much attention? I don't get a need for a spinoff of a Garth Ennis book that should already have been canceled when Garth left.

I found the premise of this video deeply offensive.

In what way? The comic previews? I don't think the Ninjettes looks very good either.

Default Good Knowledge and analysis - HQ

    Grace,

good knowledge and insight on Harley - I think you are dead on. Your segment further piqued my interest in the character.

I think making Harley Quinn independent of the joker is a good thing. Stories with them separate are usually better than ones with them together. She becomes a lot more interesting, fun-loving, ass-kicking, not-a-sidekick when the joker isn't in the picture.

The character is evolving. And I'm not sure we should be comparing the Harley from the cartoon to any other really. It's nothing new for characters to be different between the two. I've been a fan of Harley for a long time and I always thought she was smarter than she lets on. Joker act like a goofy anarchist but is actually a brilliant manipulator. Harley acts like a bubbly ditz that's to throw you off and think she's dumber than she is. Her yin and yang aren't as drastic as the Jokers. There is less acting going on with her ditzy side and less brillianspce in her intellectual side, but I always thought is was there. At least in the comics.

Characters change. Nothing new to comics. Fanboys and girls rage against change. Nothing new to the interwebs. Thinking on version is the "right" version is just an opinion. Of course I think Bart Allen should always be the Impulse character (the one from his book, not the original Waid incarnation) and Babs should be Oracle so I can throw no stones.

As for Harley, I like the new and the old. I'm a complex mofo. There will always be room in my stack for a Dini stile Harley. But I still like and see no problem with the New 52 version either.

I'm a longtime Harley Quinn / Batman: the Animated Series fan, and I really like the costume and direction of Harley Quinn. Suicide Squad suprised me by being one of my favorite monthlies right now, and it's mostly because of Harley. I hope she stays at the heart of that title.
