Default Sunday Runaround: Not Owned By Disney Or Warner Bros

TheManWatch: Stan Lee interviewed in the Independent ahead of his arrival at the London Super Con.
For now, though, his mind is firmly focused on the immediate future and his return to London. Lee is keen to remind me that his wife, Joan, is "a Geordie from Newcastle upon Tyne".He's open to the notion that UK culture has influenced his writing. "Everything I've ever read and seen, I guess, has influenced me, and I've read so many British books, and I've seen so many British comics.

HuffWatch: Scott Mendelson of the Huffington Post claims Before Watchmen is killing comics.
the stories that are being told, and the "big events" that unfold on an annual basis, areinherentlytargeted not at the younger readers that might grow up to be life-long comic book fans, but the people my age or older, those who got into comics in the 1980s or 1990s, perhaps drawn by the various film adaptations or cartoons. We older readers, gripped by our nostalgia for the "Modern Age" and our misunderstanding of its two defining works (Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns, both of which were satires that were taken as literal gospel) have demanded stories that both return to the status quo that we remember (Poof! Jim Gordon isCommissioneragain!) while delivering ever-more violent and sexual (translation -- misogynist) stories that all-but exclude the very audience that it should seek to be attracting.

    AustraliaWatch: And on the other side of the world;
YOUNG people 12 years and over who are interested in anime, manga and comics are invited to attend Otaku Club at Hurstville City Library.

The club meets on the last Friday of each month from 4.30pm to 5.30pm in the Miles Franklin Room to discuss titles and characters, trade titles and make new friends.

StoreWatch: Dragon Lady Comics of Toronto has closed.
?It?s been a lot like a funeral. Everyone?s coming by to pay their respects,? says Kilmartin, explaining that the $5,200 monthly rent, despite concessions from a co-operative landlord, was too much for the shop to bear. ?People who haven?t been here in 12 years or 15 years are dropping in to see the store one last time.?

AsiaWatch: Narayan Debnath, creator of Bengal's first superhero, Bental, get interviewed by the Times Of India.
Debnath attributed Bantul with an aura of invincibility during the Bangladesh War in 1971. The character was subsequently seen hurling tanks at adversaries, firing canon balls with his breath and displaying superpowers unseen during that era. "I was asked by my editor and publisher to turn Bantul into a superhero. I had no idea about Superman or Spiderman. The only foreign strip I had seen was Tarzan. It wasn't difficult to imagine Bantul as a superhero but I was worried that it might create legal issues as most of the subcontinent was at war at that time. Thankfully, the 'new' Bantul was liked by all and became very popular," he says.

ScotWatch: A BBC look ahead to the Glasgow Comic Con
"I would say there has never been a better time to pick up a pen or pencil and get cracking."

As well as BlackHearted Press, Mr Farman said he was aware of at least seven other independent comic companies in the Glasgow area.

Meanwhile, preparations are being made for this year's Glasgow Comic Con.

This is Computo the Comic Link Conqueror speaking. I come for your women. But for now I merely collate comic-related bits and pieces online. One day I will rule. Until that day, read on.

They say I am a work in progress. The fools.

    Last Year and the Future
And we?re not owned by the Walt Disney Company.

And we?re not owned by Warner Bros.

And we rely on neither glut nor gimmick.

    (1) Wall Photos
Just finished the cover for WORLD'S FINEST #1, which is now being colored. Since I can't show the cover until DC releases the image, here are some rough character studies showing the two lovely young ladies I've asked to be my inspiration for the likenesses of Huntress and Power Girl. The Huntress is inspired by my dear friend and cosplayer supreme Margie Cox and Power Girl is based on another friend named Jana who models professionally under the name JC Marie. I am grateful that they both agreed to do this and I hope I will do them justice in the series. ? with Margie Vizcarra Cox.

Does George Perez really NEED to look at hot young models while drawing Power Girl and Huntress? I doubt it. Does George Perez DESERVE to look at hot young models while drawing Power Girl and Huntress? Definitely.

Scott Mendelson is getting paid to give an incoherent rant not fit for even the CBR board. What a world we live in.

Are we sure he's getting paid (or paid that much)? I remember a snit from contributors at HuffPo about not being properly compensated.

..Hell, the maladroit didn't even produce something fit to see print on Nu-Rama, even if it ain't a fluff piece. With that sort of 'talent' running amok around there, maybe *I* can get a job hack writing for Huffy. Shit, I'd probably be the only one who has journalistic credit and experience, not to mention as a technical writer. Even my long rant about how Alan Moore is a hypocrite - and Dye-Ing, I haven't ignored your PM, buddy - that so many people hated enough to PM me so they could speak their mind without getting banned, that rant had far better structure to it than this misanthrope's use of those infinite monkeys and typewriters in a Schrodinger Box - you open the box, all the monkeys die, but they at least left you your story to turn in -before- deadline.

So, has anyone here ever bothered to look into the hiring practices of the Huffington Post?

while delivering ever-more violent and sexual (translation -- misogynist)
...Yup. Catwoman totally in control of Batman, essentially raping the priggish bastard so the stick up his ass doesn't totally metastasize against his brain.

    That's mysogynist.

    A-OK, I gotta learn that...

...Otay, start your clocks: How soon before some choad tries to claim that Stan & Jack stole plots from Doctor Who to use on their FF run?

Disclaimer: the opinions expressed in this post may contain adult, intelligent humor, ribald satire, biting sarcasm, aggressive cynicism, and even a brutally honest criticism or twelve. If you’ve truly got a serious problem with any of my opinions and/or the style in which they’re presented, feel free to drop me a PM and we’ll actually give it a honest go at working out our differences. Remember, working things out professionally and courteously will make things run smoother around here, eh?

I wasn't all that worked up by the HuffPost piece. Actually made some good points, nothing we haven't heard before mind you, but still good points.

Could you please post that link to your rent. I want to read it since I agree with you that Moore is a hypocrite.
