Default Saturday Runaround: The Avengers Superbowl

WatchWatch: Aaron Sowd wants in on this Before Watchmen thing going down.

NonExclusiveWatch: Will Fred Van Lente be working for DC now that he is no longer Marvel-exclusive?
The news of my first non-Marvel project since my exclusive ended should be announced soon! Very much looking forward to it.

DeadpoolsplatWatch:Talking with Rob Liefeld about Deadpool and Cable.
Rob: Those characters enjoyed the most success, mainstream or otherwise while I was at the helm. I wrote the foundations with which they were built on and continued years after I left. I'd argued they've been screwed up and nearly destroyed away from my watch.

Stopu: Kelly's Deadpool Nicieza's C&DP Swierczynski's Cable - screwed and destroyed these characters?

Rob: That's a cherry pick of the last 18 years. Plenty of junk in and around all of that. Agent X anyone?

Gail: What a weird drive-by, Rob. Just for the record, Agent X went way, WAY up in sales from Deadpool, reviews were remarkable, readers still ask about it all the time. Not sure what you're going for here.

PostcardWatch: Stripped are looking for submissions of the postcard art edition of their upcoming show at Orbital Comics in London. As is the tradition with postcard shows the work will be displayed without name tags so that amateurs and professionals will be presented on an equal footing. Further details here...

KodakMomentWatch: The harassment of Catwoman in Los Angeles.
NBC4 interviewed "Catwoman" Thursday night. She claims two other characters had been drinking and were harassing her all day.

"He was antagonizing me to do so, so I did," she told the station. "I said, 'I'm giving you fair warning. If you do not get away from me I will spray you in the face.'"

The "Willy Wonka" character confirmed "Catwoman's" account to NBC4.

No arrests were made, and no one was seriously hurt, Officer Norma Eisenman said. But police are looking for witnesses and trying to determine if anyone in the tourist area took photos or video of the incident.

MarketWatch: Comic books are, officially, more stable investments than the stock market.

This is Computo the Comic Link Conqueror speaking. I come for your women. But for now I merely collate comic-related bits and pieces online. One day I will rule. Until that day, read on.

They say I am a work in progress. The fools.

Agent X wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great. And Gail can say what she wants, she came in and did her very best to destroy everything great about Deadpool. And I'm not even that big of a fan of Wade.

Honestly, I'm very excited to hear that Fred Van Lente isn't Marvel Exclusive. He's a great example of a writer Marvel never really used to his greatest potential. I can see him doing some great books at DC.

Ditto. Image, DC, or other, Van Lente is going to blow us all away in the coming year methinks. I for one welcome our new Van Lente overlords.

RVL has never really blown me away, and he's had a *lot* of chances.

That Gail Simone barb is awesome!
Stop telling me how things should be, I'm just some cunt on the internet.
Get up, move to a table without the internet, and do something about changing it.

I don't think I agree with that assessment. At the time, I'm pretty sure Marvel was pretty fed up with everything Liefeld related (to be fair, even as a teenager, I kinda' was fed up with it too) and wanted to kill Deadpool, it was only because Gail Simone loved the character that he was saved from permanent anihilation. And she even left in Agent X a back door for the original Deadpool to be restored to his original self.

It's pretty hard for me as a long time Gail Simone fan to not rage about that statement and the manner in which he's making it.

But let's just look at the facts, Rob Liefeld was in charge of Deadpool for an extended period of time, however, it was only until Joe Kelly's run on the character that he was defined concretely as the Deadpool we know today. Deadpool's longevity, is really more a product of Kelly's writing than anything Rob Liefeld ever did with the character... With subsequent writing mostly building on what Kelly built, with even Fabian Nicieza building on the new Deadpool Kelly did.

I don't think it's fair of Rob to say that he's been the most successful Deadpool writer, specially when a very different take on the character than his is what drove him to success.

Agreed. It wasn't until the regular series, long after Rob was gone from the House of Ideas, that Deadpool got fleshed out and "a voice", so to speak. The two limited series before that (nothing by Rob), and his few X-Force appearances before Rob left for Image wasn't enough to really cement the character, and for Rob to claim he made him what he was is, well, delusional.

As for Agent X, that was great until Gail was off the book. A MASSIVE campaign to get her back on the Deadpool/Agent X book (spearheaded by myself and like minded individuals) was successful (confirmed by both Gail and Joe Quesada).

I don't remember that ever happening in regards to Rob Liefeld and Deadpool.

Those issues remain a hot back issue find as well, specifically the end of Deadpool's title and the Gail/UDON issues of Agent X.

OK, I have never really followed the whole digital comics thing too closely, but the AVENGERS thing is something I want to read. However, I don't have an iPad or and iPhone. Am I screwed?

Yeah, wherever really. He's been a talented guy for years and I hope he finally gets his time in the son.

I'm not saying that Liefeld made everything great about Deadpool or anything. I am saying that Agent X threw out pretty much everything about Deadpool, including the character himself. The art was great, but I was far from blown away by it. I pretty much enjoyed every creator on the original Deadpool series more than I did that last year by Simone, and that includes the excruciating Priest run.

Simone can brag all she wants but she didn't make Deadpool in to the uber-popular character he is today. X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Daniel Way did.
