In my opinion, they dropped the ball with the Game of Thrones comics. They're only up to the fifth issue, and an entire season behind.

They're taking 24 issues for the first novel. At that rate they might still get to book six before GRRM does. :/

I'm really digging their Warlord of Mars books. I wasn't fond of ERB's Tarzan books growing up, so I never had much interest in reading his John Carter books either. Wasn't interested in the new movie. (I still think the star looks too boyish for the part of a veteran Confederate Army Captain, even for a Disney movie.) However, I looked thru a couple of the comics and when I sat down to finally read one, I wound up tearing thru all 14 issues of WOM in two sittings. I'm taking my time with the spin-offs. I finished the first arc on Dejah Thoris and I've heard the second arc is even better. I'll jump into Fall of Barsoom after I catch up with that one. Meanwhile, I have all 11 ERB novels sitting on my Kindle waiting to be read.

I looked into what Marvel is doing with their John Carter comics. I'm sure someone really likes the art of their Princess of Mars adaption, but I don't. I couldn't even tell what was going on in half the panels and I had literally just read the same story from Dynamite two days earlier. I understand they are doing a kid's version sanctioned by the ERB estate, so none of the Martians are naked like in the books. That's fine. That doesn't excuse sloppy artwork tho. Maybe kids will like it. Actually, I think kids would like the one with almost the naked Martian Princess quite a lot more. So...never mind.

It's hard to dismiss the Marvel stuff as a quick and blatant cash grab for the Disney movie tie-in when Dynamite has four ongoing WOM titles shipping in April, but at least I'm enjoying the stuff from Dynamite and they're only $1.99 after 30 days on Comixolgy. Maybe I'll enjoy the older 70s JC comics from Marvel. They are two reprints collections for that. A $20 B&W phone book from Dark Horse and a $100 color hardcover from Marvel. Probably opt for the cheaper one.

I will kept two books from DE: A Game of Thrones and The Wheel of Time. GoT has a very lot of story pages for a $3.99 book, and WoT is a very well condensed and written version of the huge prose book.

These titles are not coming from light prose books but from very complex and huge prose books. So, that is why there will be a very large number for each books of these two sagas. I do not know if I will continue in the single format or if I will buy the HC. Or much better, the two formats!
    Aut Pax. Aut Bellum.

Support the comic book indy scene.

Question about the mainstreamed comic books: why I am still buying the singles when the trades are well inexpensive? Why?
I am doing the DC and Vertigo singles... and the new titles of 2011/12 are already listed on Amazon at real lower prices in trade format!!!
    Am I stupid?
