Default Freedom From Diamond Comic Distribution

Potato Comics is publishing Xeric winning small press title Freedom by Seamus Heffernan in April, now distributed by Diamond Comic Distribution.

Set during the American Revolution, it's a rather impertinent look at a history that some Americans hold sacrosanct.

For a start, it stars a teenager living in aMassachusettsthat lost the American Revolution, and remains under British colonial rule. He doesn't really find a side to take in the battle and ends up smack bang in the middle of opposing forces.

The book is created almost as a Revolutionary artifact that never existed, mirroring woodcut printing processes and mixing the mockery with pathos.

It can be a hardship when a self published small press title tries to barge its way through Diamond Comic Distribution's doors, but this one deserves your support, and you can find a preview to the book below in case you need a little extra convincing as to the comic's merits.

Although in a strange twist of fate when researching this book, I came across an Irish horse race from last September, in which Freedom was being run by one Seamus Heffernan in the Diamond Stakes... and won.

    A good omen perhaps?

    Default Title Snafu!

While I think this sounds like a great book, and the article is interesting, I have to call you out on a VERY misleading title.

    "Freedom From Diamond Comics Distribution".

Read out of context of the above comic, it alludes to an article I would love to read, about the fall of Diamond Distribution (it's going to happen), and the move to an industry that can better support it's creators by putting more of that cover price into their pockets. This is why so many sell their books online, myself included. Not that Diamond hasn't helped keep the direct market afloat over the years, but they squashed most competition, stifling the market over time, and the 50-60% of the cover price they get, is hardly equitable, considering how much work creators put into a book.

Bleeding Cool is still bloody great, and this is just one creator's opinion. In a way it is an ironic slip on your part, because the current distribution model can't/won't last. The debate it raises, will come back again.

Thanks for all the great reads. Keep 'em coming.

A really great period we don't hear enough about.
One of the best graphic novels I ever read that takes place during the American Revolution is "The Sons of Liberty book I and Death & Taxes book II". They follow two runaway slaves that become masked vigilantes fighting slaver handlers and the British. It's very violent and pretty damn serious. Highly recommend it. I'll be checking "Freedom" out for sure.

Another misleading headline on a Bleeding Cool 'story'. Are you that desperate for hits Rich?

SOLD!! I med to go to read the Previews form to see its code. This book is now listed on my monthly comic books list.

For the readers who want to read more stories in this period of the Red lobsters, there is a wonderful Italian comic book which was published in France too. Its name is Captain Swing in french (always published in B&W pocket size format), and in Italian it's Commandante Mark. There is also a lot of stories published in Czechoslovakia, Greece and Spain. Mainly are B&W comic books in Italian classic format (like the late MINX GN format), except the Greek one which is in color.

    Aut Pax. Aut Bellum.

Support the comic book indy scene.

Question about the mainstreamed comic books: why I am still buying the singles when the trades are well inexpensive? Why?
I am doing the DC and Vertigo singles... and the new titles of 2011/12 are already listed on Amazon at real lower prices in trade format!!!
    Am I stupid?

I'm pretty sure Rich was fully aware of how the title might be taken. It was deliberate wording on his part.
