Default Paul Duffield, Co-Creator Of Freakangels, Needs Your Support

Okay, "needs" is a strong word. As Paul Duffield says, he can work one day a week on his new graphic novel, and it may take years. But if he can raise money with the international social network funding site IndieGoGo, then he can spend more time on the project and get it out... this year.

What, you may ask? Paul Duffield's The Fireflight Isle. Take a look at this motion comic trailer... it may just blow your mind.

    Doesn't that look rather splendid? In Paul's own words;
The Firelight Isle is a new creator-owned graphic novel that I started writing earlier this year. The story revolves around two young characters who have been friends since birth, a weaver named Anlil (right) and Sen (left) a spearman in training. The plot begins as they're initiated into their professions and begin adult life. The world is a fantastical one that forms a backdrop on which to explore human culture in a fictional setting. I'm currently working on story, designs and research, and I've now gathered enough material to go live with the project!

My goal for The Firelight Isle is to produce a graphic novel without compromises, and put every ounce of quality that I can into the story, the art and the design. The finished product will be a 200-300 page full-colour book, with production values inspired by beautiful publications like Habibi and The Arrival, in which every detail of the book contributes to the atmosphere of the story.

Between now and publication, I plan to document the creation process online, and release each newly finished page for free on this website. Right now I'm funding The Firelight Isle myself, and I can currently afford to spend one day a week on it at most. At that pace it won't be finished for many years, but I'm dedicating myself to completing it at full quality, no matter how long it takes! Here's where you come in - if you'd like to help speed up the process, I'm looking for funding from as many sources as possible and the following pages contain all the information you might want before helping out...

It is very unlikely that Paul Duffield will fall out with himself or attempt to fire himself, leading to a battle between Kickstarter updates and Facebook posts. So... who's down for $5? $10? $20? More?

You ask people for money in order to fund a specific project. Generally, exclusive tiered benefits are offered depending on the amount pledged (exclusive merch, advance copies of the finished work, etc etc).

Here's an example of one, to give you an idea The TRANSMETROPOLITAN art book by CBLDF — Kickstarter

I have to nitpick a little bit on this one. The only perk that gets the book in your hands is the $200 donation. There should be a lesser perk for the book only (and maybe web access).

I am doing an exam of my monthly incomes and expenses, and I will do a monthly money transfer via Paypal to help him. He is really a very cool guy and his work is fabulous.

I do not care about how many I will give him. That is not the point. In this period of financial crisis, I prefer to help someone on his project in which I believe than to cry.
I do not have huge monthly incomes: I am at 630 Euros/month. And I have a lot of expenses.

With or without our help, this project will be conducted to its end. The release date of this OGN will depend on how many money Paul will be given. The more he has, the quickest the book will be published.

The last point is also that I support the best way I can, the British creation in all its domains. If I can help, I help.

Question about the mainstreamed comic books: why I am still buying the singles when the trades are well inexpensive? Why?
I am doing the DC and Vertigo singles... and the new titles of 2011/12 are already listed on Amazon at real lower prices in trade format!!!
    Am I stupid?

Hey, sorry this isn't clearer. I say in the description that "Like Freakangels, it will be published for free on the web and then collected in print.", so everyone, contributor or not, gets web access once I'm ready to publish!
The only reason I can't offer proper (as in, reasonably priced) pre-orders of the printed book is that I'm too far away from publishing it to know enough of the right details! So, to be safe, I've only offered copies of the book to a limited number of higher contributors in case there are any complications down the line. Hopefully the other perks (like prints, sketches, your credit in the book and original artwork) will be enough along with the free online read.
