Default GLAAD Comics Nominees 2012 Announced

The nominees for this year's GLAAD awards that celebrate the portrayal of LGBT in media have been announced. Including the comics categories. The GLAAD awards generally tend towards the mainstream, those that are more likely to get media attention. Which generally means superheroes. But this year, Archie as well.

    The candidates are:
Avengers: The Children's Crusade by Allan Heinberg, Marvel

Batwoman by J.H. Williams III and W. Haden Blackman, DC Comics

Secret Six by Gail Simone, DC Comics

Veronica Presents: Kevin Keller by Dan Parent, Archie Comics

X-Factor by Peter David, Marvel Comics

It's a little annoying how they don't mention the artists, unless the artists are also the writer.

Didn't read the Kevin Keller comic book but it probably should be between this and Batwoman as they are the comic books that actually feature gay leads.

    Archie has already won this.

I'm not a fan of GLAAD's "most vanilla gay comics character that people have already heard about" approach, but by their criteria, the Kevin Keller books from Archie are the clear - and deserving - winner.

I don't know much about it. If so that's a bit sad because i'd say Batwoman is probably worthier, not just in craft and overall general quality but because it paints a strong portrait of a lesbian character without making it a defining trait.

I'm gonna say Archie should get it. It's one thing for Marvel or DC to have gay characters in books that are more adult targeted, as all 4 of those are. It's another thing for Archie to have them in what pretty much defines "Children's comics"

It's going to be a rough year to choose a winner...maybe it should be a five-way tie....
