Default Ming The Merciless Gets His Own Comic

There are companies doing things other than DC Comics, apparently.

In April, Dynamite will be publishing Merciless - The Rise Of Ming #1, the first issue of a new series that's a prequel to the current Flash Gordon: Zeitgeist comic, looking at Ming's coming of age and struggle to gain power, from a simple Prince to emperor of Mongo. And why he made the journey.

Written by Scott Beatty and drawn by Ron Adrian, with a cover (above) from Alex Ross, this might just be a rather entertaining comic book. Scott is best known for his DC Ultimate Guide reference books, but has a chuck of Batman books under his belt. He also has been writing Buck Rogers for Dynamite. Ron is also best known for his DC work, such as Birds Of Prey, Supergirl and Flash. Hang on, I thought I was trying to write about someone other than DC?

I honestly thought this was going to be a comic about Menzies Campbell from Bluewater Comics or similar.

    Oops. Carry on.

I hope they adjust the colors a bit on the final product. Right now the giant head in the background is blending with the sword in the foreground, so at first glance it looks like Ming has a cartoonishly long needle-nose.

Yes, I thought the same. Not that I'm adverse to cartoony comics. ;-)

It doesn't look like the finished art to me so hopefully it'll be corrected before print. I'm enjoying Dynamite's Flash Gordon, being a fan of the 1930s serial, so I'll probably buy this.
