Default Swipe File: Alex Ross And Fandom Rising

We've spoken about the casting announcement for Fandom Rising, a new planned reality TV show with a geek focus from the producers of Jersey Shore for MTV. The casting call is above with a Fritz Lang Metropolis figure with a Star Trek logo, for some reason... and in the back a figure from a different Metropolis, Superman. But tht pose looks rather familiar, let's take a closer look...

    Yes, very familiar indeed.

Say, did Alex Ross get paid a design fee, maybe? What do you think?

In Swipe File we present two or more images that resemble each other to some degree. They may be homages, parodies, ironic appropriations, jokes, coincidences or works of the lightbox. We trust you, the reader, to make that judgment yourself. If you are unable to do so, please return your eyes to their maker before any further damage is done. The Swipe File doesn?t judge, it?s interested more in the process of creation, how work influences other work, how new work comes from old, and sometimes how the same ideas emerge simultaneously, as if their time has just come. The Swipe File was named after the advertising industry habit where writers and artist collect images and lines they admire to inspire them in their work. It was swiped from the Comic Journal who originally ran this column, as well as the now defunct Swipe Of The Week website.

Initially, I thought it was just a generic pose (since the cape is quite different to the way Ross drew it). But then I noticed that this slightly altered version of the same Ross picture floating around online looks virtually identical:

So yeah, I'm going with Swipe.

The Star Trek logo on the android makes no sense. If that android isn't named 'Data', it's not needed.

As the casting announcement proudly notes, these are the "masterminds" (read: "bottom feeders") behind Jersey Shore. A complete lack of integrity is only to be expected.

Actually, if the android were Data's deactivated daughter Lal, she would have at least marginal claim to a Federation logo.
Is that sufficiently geeky? Can I be on the show now? Huh? Can I?

It's Maria from the Metropolis film with a Star Trek logo, that really is... out of place?
