Default The Comic Book Artwork Of Douglas Bloodworth

We recently ran the work of Sharon Moody, and accusations that she was ripping comic book artists off with her work, as well as a strong defence of the art of appropriation.

I think there will be an even stronger defence of the work of Douglas Bloodworth, who paints comics integrated into still life. Here are some examples of his paintings - and a stop frame video showing the process.

Thanks to Milk And Cookies, and Sweet Station.

Wow, these are amazing. If I hadn't seen that video I would have sworn they were photographs. Truly one of the best photo-realistic painters I have seen in a long time.

And as art I have full respect for this work, it doesn't shy away from the fact that it is pop-culture still life.

    Holy Moley!
Well, he does have more talent than a lot of the people who created the books in the first place, that's for sure.
The major problem is that the books are the focal point of the work and not just an incidental detail in the back ground, so I image he'll run into some problems.
I don't care how talented you are, you don't pour greasy Lays potato chip across a Neal Adams Superman.
My real problem with the paintings is the composition. Who ever owns the comics appears to have the world's worst mother who keeps putting snacks down in the middle of her kid's comics.

THIS IS NOT A RIP-OFF ARTIST! THIS IS A VERY TALENTED ARTIST DOING ACTUAL ART, NOT ANY KIND OF PLAGIARISM.

Where Rob Granito is ripping off artists and calling those creations his, Douglas Bloodworth is using comic books as a subject matter for his very interesting still life work.

He's incredibly good! I thought what I was looking at were photographs at first. Mad respect for Mr. Bloodworth!

Wow... At the first viewing, I was thinking about CGI: the reality is incredible!!!

And when I saw the stop frame video, I was on my butt!!! What an incredible artist!!!! With only a canvas and (acrylic?) paints, he creates a true living scene!!!

It is really a true painting about the comic book universe. It is not like the copied comic book panels from the other "artist", Moody.

I think that on the legal POV, he is in rights to reproduce comic book covers/pages: they are not "cleared" at 100%. Objects are "put" on these paintings. So, the 100% copy term/condition doesn't apply here for these comic book parts.

I am basing this reflexion on the French imagery laws (I have worked in the ads domains and legal conditions were my main interests).

And again, as I am an artist too, he really is a Master of his art!!!!!! I wonder what a comic book realized by Douglas should be!!!!

Hey, DC Thinking Heads!!!! Let Douglas to paint a Watchmen prequel!!! I am for it at 101%!!!!!

He's clearly a very talented painter, but not much of an artist.
