Default FREE: Flash Gordon: The Mercy Wars #0 And #1 - And War With Dynamite

Here's two free comics of the Flash Gordon comic that Dynamite isn't publishing. But Ardden Entertainment is. That's what happens when you license the same character twice. Issue 0 and issue 1.

But what doesn't always happn is one of the companies (Ardden) offering retailers a copy of the 80 page trade paperback of Flash Gordon: The Secret History Of Mongo (retail $7.95) by J.M. DeMatteis, Denny O?Neill, Joe Casey, Jim Krueger, Len Wein, Tom DeFalco for every unsold copy of Dynamite's Flash Gordon: Zeitgeist #1.

Of course you realise this means war. Hot hail!

Flash Gordon is not public domain. He just happens to be licensed to 2 different comic publishers. I have no idea as to why.

Now that's how you do a modern day update of FLASH GORDON. That was pretty damn good.

Between the Dynamite and the Ardden one, I really prefer the new styled Flash Gordon by Ardden.

It is so simple that I am collecting all the published trades at this time.

I do not spat on the classic Dynamite comic book. It is only that, as an artist, I am fond of the new style of an iconic character which has hooked a very large new readers audience, despite the fact that it is a very old comic strip character.

For the readers of the classic Flash Gordon stories, Dynamite is well doing its job.

Each fan of the Flash Gordon stories has his own styled comic book stories. So, everyone has his comic book he likes.

So, where is the war??? What to do an issue about this??? And, hey!!!, it is a common marketing trick used by each publisher, so, please, do not perform the outraged fanboy. OK??

Liking both Ardden and Dynamite's Flash Gordon, so I'll probably pick up both. I personally prefer the artwork in Dynamite over the style used here. It's not bad but I hate that style in other properties like Transformers. Here it kinda fits. The selling point for me on this particular Flash Gordon is the talented people involved.

I tried the first couple issues of the Ardden FLASH a while back, but it was too silly for me. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

"Because King Features likes money" would be a valid reason.
I know that right now "Prince Valiant" titles are available from Fantagraphics (reprints of the Hal Foster stuff), Andrews-McMeel (the current stuff by Schultz/Gianni) and Flesk published a nice volume showcasing Gianni's work on "Prince Valiant" as well.
"The Phantom" ist currently published by Dynamite (modern take) and Hermes Press (reprints of the newspaper strip and the old issues by Charlton/Gold Key).
So why not license another property to more than one publisher?
