Gary Oldman And Helena Bonham-Carter Have Been Offered Roles In Akira
Last week's whispers that Garrett Hedlund had been offered the role of Kaneda in Jaume Collet-Serra's American adaptation of Katsuhiro Ohtomo's Akira remain nothing but rumours for now, but the intelligence agency known sometimes as Twitch has offered up some more casting news which they sound pretty confident about. Apparently Gary Oldman has been offered the role of the Colonel (pictured) and Helena Bonham-Carter has been offered the role of Lady Miyako.
They're both interesting choices and getting Oldman and Bonham-Carter onboard would certainly bolster interest in the film, since its appeal at the moment lies mainly with those fans of the manga who haven't already rejected the idea of an American adaptation out of hand. Only trouble is that neither Gary nor Helena have said yes yet, and possibly they never will, but there are definitely "talks" happening.
Why won't this piece of shit film die?! It's like the black knight. You think you've bested it, but then it comes at you hopping on one foot claiming it's just a flesh wound. Ugh.

YES! If they did that, fine. Make your American Akira movie. Just don't fucking call it Akira. It's like making a new movie of Lawrence of Arabia and setting it in the California desert. No. It doesn't work. You have altered it beyond recognition and it needs a new name.
Yet these pea brained idiot suits in Hollywood can only think in franchises and trademarked names. They use "lunchbox storytelling". Instead of actually telling a good story with unique characters, they create hollow trademarked action figures and fill the characters with cliches from other films they've already done to death.
Now this is just that Warners is putting feelers out. No one has said yes. Also I think it's Waners being retards and thinking they can transplant Harry Potter actors into Akira as if they were the same thing.
Pssst. Hollywood. Idiots suits at Warners. A little tip for you.
what's really miserable is that Akira(Adam) can easily be adapted to the west New York even but they really are cutting the prime rib of the story (especially the politics) and characters to make something bland and generic... it's green lantern all over again
If Gary Oldman is involved, my interest in this movie will go up a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent. Given that my interest is currently hovering somewhere well below zero, that ain't saying much...
