Default New site on Android phone

I mentioned this in another thread but thought it best to give it it's own thread so others can contribute.

On my Android 2.2 all pages lay out fine in full screen mode, but as soon as I zoom in thinks start to mess up, for example with large stories the footer appears about half way up the page, covering a paragraph or so of text in the middle of the article, the remaining text is then grey on black. Strangely there is also another, different, footer at the bottom of the page.

Same thing happens with the last story in each column on the front page, the text spills into the footer.

And when I zoom the text on the front page fits to screen but the headlines don't.

The old theme displayed perfectly with none of the above problems.

Also, I'd like to make a professional suggestion, up the line height on the front page a bit to space the text out more like on the old site, much easier to read.

Incidentally, for reference only, the forum displays fine on *my* android tablet.

    Stock browser.
    Honeycomb.
    'Desktop' user agent
Developer tool removed address bar and tabs.

I think I finally found my "aha" moment on some of these issues. Scaling causes rounding errors in div size calculations, so if you make things a perfect fit it can go haywire if stuff gets scaled for certain devices or screen sizes. We'll put this to the test shortly.

    Huh. Interesting.

I thought that DIVs were the super solver for the internet's woes. It's stunning me that they're somehow fallible.
I'll switch tablet and phone user agents when I get home tonight and test.

Divs work however you want them to work, meaning they can always mess up. If I could bill Microsoft for all the time I've wasted in the last few years making things work for IE6 then I'd be able to retire.

Sadly this site still isn't displaying properly on my phone, the forum is fine but the footer messes up the main page and all articles over a certain length.

If I remember I'll try and have a word with one of the android developers at work when I get back after Christmas. Internet I'm fine with, but when it comes to mobile development I've no idea (yet).

    Oh!

Good stuff, thanks for the info.

I'm not sure, but isn't mobile Chrome pretty bloody similar to desktop Chrome?

    Screenshots

Landscape (from what I gather most go landscape)

Portrait (my personal preference, due to the longer nature of Android tablets)

It looks like that in tablet, desktop and mobile user agent string modes.

After months of saying how pointless tablets are I'm actually tempted to get an android one, mainly because I have way too many comic I'll probably never read again but can't bring myself to part with, so as more and more older comics are getting uploaded to the Marvel app I'm tempted to get rid of a load of older comics and get them digitally.

So, just to slightly derail my own thread for a minute, sell me on Android tablets :-)

Pretty sure there's a thread for it in the digital or tech rooms.
That said, reading .CBR or .CBZ using perfect viewer in portrait is second only to CBreader on a windows tablet. Absolutely fantastic, and you only need to zoom for double page spreads, and you can even set the volume rocker as page up/down.
