I was thinking, maybe we should have a private board to discuss modly things. There are plenty of times where we get a reported post and I'm unsure whether it qualifies for any sort of action, or if it would be overreaching to do so.

Yes it is possible and yes it is a good idea - so good I was also pondering it myself and have been meaning to give Rich or Mark a nudge about it.

Or we could start banning people who even slightly get on our nerves until people start complaining about moderator powertrips, then take a more lenient approach. Rinse, wash and repeat. Somewhere along that continuum we'll get it right.

Meh.. transparency to that degree often devolves to 'lets go to committee for every single decision'...

So long as the mods are actually moderate it's good to have a place where they can get on with the job while applying their own checks and balances.

Dear Lord, it'd be like one of the lower circles of Hell. "He was mean to me", "he was mean to me first," etc., etc.

So long as the mods are actually moderate it's good to have a place where they can get on with the job while applying their own checks and balances.

Indeed - what it'd mean is we could come to a consensus over what to do about an issue (say, a problematic user who was pissing everyone off) so it would tend to balance everything out - at the moment it is usually down to individuals to use their best judgement which would tend to mean erring on the side of caution unless someone managed to push a mod until they snapped.

How many mods does BC have now, anyway?

I dunno - I've counted 3 but there are probably more.

With the month I've had - Kate, Jason, Dusty - I think we're still OK to spit on the mat and call the cat a bastard when we choose to...

Editing of post content is the big no-no for me. The shit that happens needs to stay happened, even if you then shoot the one who flung it.

WTF, if it does all turn draconian, we can lead the revolution!
