I thought it might help balance out the prevailing hivemind. Some forums actually make feedback public, so you know who is leaving feedback and whether it was positive or negative. You can also disable the tally, so you have no global positive or negative score, which helps to dissuade trolls from bothering with neg-bombing.
I think a simple 'like', akin to the facebook feature would work, without any polling of the data, but anything even remotely hinting at dislike becomes political ... fast.
