    Default Jen draws and paints!

    Heya there!

I'm Jen! I draw stuff. And paint stuff. I'm currently working on two projects.
    - The artist for the graphic novel 'Butterflies and Moths', written by Corey Brotherson.
    - Sole creator of my own fantasy story called 'Skal' that is still in the early stages of development.

I've been lurking here for a short while and thought I might try posting some of my art. Crits are always welcome

Here are some paintings of various characters from Skal:

Aaand some stuff from Butterflies and Moths:

    Woop woop!

    Mmmm... Those are raaaather nice!

I've always had a soft spot for painted art in comics, but very few people can carry it off successfully. I'll keep an eye out for these!

    Thanks for posting!

    Cheers

I do like this, especially the Butterflies and Moths illos. Good use of colour and poses.

    Thank you.

Painting every page -does- take ages, but it's insanely fun.

And watercolour is chaos in a tube.

Out of nosiness, what do you work with? Brush, or watercolour pens/pencils? How long does it take you to do stuff?

    Cheers

I work with sable brushes (which I love immensely and can find myself stroking them for long periods of time). Recently started using tube-watercolour instead of the pans, which is much better when you need more pigment. White gouache is also used for highlights and general body colour.

Also beginning to get back to ink lines. Might start doing that more, but the reason I stopped with them before was because I felt they were too restricting. 'Don't get the paint outside of the line! Augh!'

I've been told I'm quite quick when I produce things, but in general it will take me like... 3 days (remember that watercolour needs drying time) to produce a graphic novel page. So I'm very slow compared to the 'industry standard' where people churn out like.. 2 pages a day or something crazy!

Character paintings I generally do in a day. It's hard to time it because you have to leave the paintings to dry between each layer and I work with about 5 paintings at the same time.

The Greeks probably have a word for that... (I did try Googling for one, but I had to go have a cold shower and a lie down at some of the results!!!)

Thanks for the info. Keep us posted on when your books become available, please!

Hahah! Don't elaborate on what you found

And I'm just going to finish this bloomin' degree (in 2 weeks time), then it's back to proper work!
