    Default Favorite Non-Comic Painting

This thread will be a place to discuss your favorite non-comic book painting. Below is my entry:

    Portrait of Dr. Heinrich Stadelmann
    by Otto Dix (1922)

I saw this painting about 10 years ago in a European Masters tour. While I appreciated all of the other paintings that were there, I literally stood mesmerized in front of this painting for 30 minutes without moving, taking in it's complete creepiness. (For perspective, the artist (Otto Dix) suffered from severe PTSD after his stint in the German Army in WWI. His painting generally reflected his disturbed state of mind.)

One interesting note about the painting itself. While mostly flat, the artist chose to build up the paint on the eyes so that they protrude from the canvas about 1/2"-3/4". It makes for a frightening look.
    "There's a non-zero chance of that occurring."

Pretty much anything by Gustav Klimt, but this one is my favorite:

I vary a lot on art, but I usually end up back here sooner or later.

What can I say, "I'm a Muchas, Muchas man..."

    Cheers.

I wouldn't have a clue how to explain why, but I've always loved Slave Auction by Jean-Michel Basquiat. Saw it at Centre Pompidou in Paris a few years back and was really struck by it's beauty.

People from Cork are the most well balanced people in Ireland. They have a chip on both shoulders.

The Temptation of Saint Anthony by Hieronymus Bosch.

Sorry if that's too big, but a small picture really doesn't do it justice.
"As if I walked into the room to see my ex-girlfriend
(who by the way I'm still in love with)
sucking the face of some pretty boy
with my favorite band's most popular song in the background.
Is it wrong that I can't decide which bothers me most?"
