Archie Comics Editor Victor Gorelick Dies at Age 78

The Archie Universe has lost one of its greats, according to publisher Archie Comics. For over sixty years, Victor Gorelick helped shape and create the world of Archie, Riverdale and beyond.  Born in 1941, Victor started his career at Archie Comics fresh out of high school in the art department, where he learned how to color and ink — one of the most important parts of creating a comic. During his tenure at the company, he worked his way up to Editor-in-Chief, and helped make Archie a household name.

During his career, he created relationships with Kraft General Foods and Radio Shack, putting Archie front and center to countless millions of people. Victor Gorelick understood that Archie needed to constantly evolve in today's world — especially with a lack of outlets for comics to be sold at — and was instrumental in getting Riverdale on the small screen.

To me, Gorelick served as someone who crafted my childhood, and in turn my adult life. I don't know where I would be if it weren't for these kids from Riverdale. His love and devotion to the Archie gang was apparent in everything. His favorite character was Jughead (arguably the best Archie character), but deep down he loved them all equally.

This morning on social media, Archie Comics recalled, "No person embodied the Archie spirit more than Victor, who was a leader, friend, and mentor to everyone who walked through the doors of Archie. A lifelong friend and mentor to Archie Comics co-CEO Jon Goldwater and an inspiration to the entire Archie Comics family, Victor will never be forgotten."

Gorelick is survived by his wife Kathie, his other family and friends, and of course millions of fans. Thank you Mr. Gorelick. Rest well.
