WWE Fires Lead Writer Tom Casiello, Strong Proponent Of Women's Wrestling

According to various reports around the net including this one from Cageside Seats, WWE has fired Managing Lead Writer Tom Casiello. Casiello, according to insider reports, was a strong proponent of the recent rise in status of women's wrestling in the company. Over the course of the past year, women wrestlers have gone from competing in short, mostly meaningless matches and storylines while being referred to as "Divas" to main eventing TV shows and PPVs and generally being one of the most interesting parts of WWE's weekly programming.

It's an impressive development considering WWE Chairman and ultimate creative head Vince McMahon's past… er… struggles with the subject:

When Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks became the first women to headline a WWE PPV in the first ever women's Hell in the Cell match back in October, Vince McMahon was reportedly reluctant to allow the match to go on last, and was rumored to be against it until the very last minute. Could the departure of Casiello signal less of a push for women's wrestling in WWE?

It would be a very poor move, but then, so is pushing Roman Reigns for two years despite fans booing him out of the building in nearly every city he wrestles in, so yeah, maybe it's worth being just a little bit concerned.
