Not So Fast – CW's Dr. Mirage Still Not Alive

Yesterday, Deadline Hollywood reported that the CW had made a pilot commitment to produce a new series based on Valiant's Death-Defying Dr. Mirage – a move that would bring the ghostly paranormal detective to the network's hit comic book-based slate alongside The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and IZombie.

And Bleeding Cool's Jude Terror blindly reprinted it all without actually doing any checking of his own.

However, in the hours since, several sources, including the Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez, have been reporting the reports of Valiant's first leap onto the small screen may be premature:

Well I've also been able to independently confirm, (you know, by actually talking to people, Jude) that while talks between the CW, Valiant, writer Dauberman, and Valiant minority investor DMG (they do like to stress the word minority) are ongoing, there still in the very early stages with no concrete plans for moving forward and no pilot commitment, as was been reported by Deadline.

Likely, it would seem, someone close to the project jumped the gun and leaked its existence before a final deal could be struck…which could throw the series' future into jeopardy, but hey, it worked for Deadpool.

Originally debuting in 1993 as The Second Life of Dr. Mirage by Bob Layton and Bernard Chang, the character was resurrected in 2013 by Valiant as the Death-Defying Dr. Mirage with writer Jen Van Meter and artist Roberto de la Torre with the most recent incarnation serving as the inspiration for the CW's take. The story of a supernatural investigator who can speak to all ghost – except, sadly, her own deceased husband – the story follows Mirage as she begins a journey through the underworld to recover her beloved's spirit. The series was widely acclaimed and received multiple Harvey Award nominations.

If and when Dr. Mirage actually does make the leap to TV, she would join a quickly growing roster of Valiant projects in various stages of development, including the five-film Harbinger and Bloodshot franchises at Sony and the forthcoming Ninjak Vs. The Valiant Universe live-action series from the company's digital content arm, Valiant Digital.

Sometimes you've just got to have Faith.
