Doctor Strange Was Going To Feature Another Villain Entirely

Strange

Doctor Strange is now in lots of our rear view mirrors (but still doing very well at the box office). We can now start turning our gaze to the next films in the Marvel universe, but also, lots of cool post-mortems of the sorcerer supreme.

One such just went live on Empire, and it reveals that the bad guys in the film weren't always the bad guys. Scott Derrickson revealed originally that Nightmare was going to be the bad guy, but thanks to some helpful works from Kevin Feige, it was shifted to something more recognisable.

He said:

Kevin made a very cogent case. The trouble with starting with Nightmare is getting across the idea of the Dream Dimension as another dimension. The movie was challenging enough. It's already an exposition-heavy movie… Dormammu made the most sense. And he is the most present villain in the comics.

This isn't the first time Derrickson has talked about his love of Nightmare, and if I was a betting man, if Derrickson is still around for a sequel, and he doesn't go solely with the bad guy set up in the first film, we will be seeing Nightmare in the near future.
