A New Harry, A New Speedster And A New Villain

Lots happened in last night's episode of The Flash. The villain of the week trope continued with the introduction of Magenta, a young girl from the foster system who has her magnetic powers awakened by Doctor Alchemy, but they seem to only be connected to one part of her split personality. That sounds fun.

Meanwhile Harrison Wells and his daughter Jessie Wells return from Earth-2 because Jessie has become a speedster. For comic fans we knew she was a version of the speedster Jessie Quick, but I have a feeling it wasn't a surprise to non-comic fans either. Just like everyone knows that Wally West will get his speed at some point, the only question is whether he'll find it on his own or if Alchemy will give it to him.

One unexpected thing is we're basically seeing a different version of Harrison. He's a little funnier, a little quirkier. If you didn't see the episode, check out the trailer below when it comes time to name the next villain. In that same vein, I like Cisco Ramon's reaction to hearing the name Magenta in this episode.

Still not sure what's going on with Julian Albert. Its easy to believe that he will end up being one of the bad guys this season… either Alchemy or Savitar. But in this episode he discovers a way to identify the metas affected by Alchemy through their DNA and confronts Magenta, forcing the angry persona to the surface. Hard to see why Alchemy would do that. Maybe to control which personality was in charge, but it seems like he could've done that more subtly. Maybe he's not a bad guy and he and Barry Allen will hug it out by the end of the season.

The interesting thing right now, and it might just be me, I feel like we are not done seeing the affects of Flashpoint. I know we still have the Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost thing to deal with… but I'm sure there will be more fallout, so I watch the episodes waiting for the next shoe to drop.

Next week we get to see Jesse Quick in costume and we are introduced to the Mirror Master. I seriously hope there is a David Cassidy appearance in the episode. Cassidy played the first live-action Mirror Master in the John Wesley Shipp Flash series and is also the father of Katie Cassidy who plays Laurel Lance / Black Canary.
