Michael Myers Joins Dead By Daylight

By Madeline Ricchiuto

dlx_1Dead by Daylight, a 4 on 1 horror game, has been out on Steam since June and has already seen several updates. The latest change to the game is the introduction of Halloween's Michael Myers as one of the game's killers and Laurie Strode as a survivor. Along with Myers, a new map is being released. Myer's map is the suburban town of Haddonfield with its small houses, well lit streets, and cramped backyards.

Lead Game Designer Dave Richard and Producer Mathieu Cote were available at booth 1ECC10 to talk about the changes to the game while an actor in costume as Dead by Daylight's Michael Myers stalked around the edges of the booth. Both seemed very excited about the inclusion of Myers and Laurie, with Cote gushing that he is very excited to play Myers.

Myers' inclusion will tip the balance for killer-players as his general skill set is best utilized by making survivors wait in dread as he slowly stalks them through the backyards of Haddonfield. "We get a lot of data from the game and one thing we've noticed is that the killers are getting faster and faster about tracking down survivors… Myers will change that," Cote said. As things stand in the game, once survivors see killers, it initiates a chase. With Myers, that may not always be the case.

They did hint that Dead By Daylight is in talks with other horror properties about including more licensed characters in the future, but were unable to give any details on characters that they want to see join the Dead By Daylight killer roster. Richard and Cote confirmed that, even though they will be adding more licensed characters, they will absolutely be including more of their own- "we still have more stories to tell."

Some future updates may include different game modes, with the fans' big requests being a tournament, a game-mode with random perks, and a stripped down mode like the original beta where you got the first five perks available to killers and survivors, and nothing else. The Dead By Daylight team is always tweaking the balance on the game, as the game is only available to play online. But do expect more vanity items. The art packs sold well and the team is excited to do more.

In terms of their own playing, Cote plays as a killer because "I don't like tobe scared, and the killer is never scared," while Richard prefers the stress of surviving. Cote's is "old school" and plays the Trapper as his main. His favorite survivor is Nia. Richard plays Meg, but uses the Wraith when playing as a killer. "Now I'll be playing Myers," he said
