A New Origin Story For Clark Kent

That's the thing with DC Rebirth, relaunches and semi-reboots. You're never exactly sure what sticks and what doesn't.

We're now pretty sure that the now-dead New 52 Superman and Lois Lane were constructs of Dr Manhattan, while the currently alive Superman and Lois were the ones from before, shunted into a differently continuity to have a kid, Jonathan Kent, and now brought back to this one for DC Rebirth after the events of Convergence. Or as The Spectre says,

Yeah. Anyway.

The only fly in the ointment now is this new Clark Kent, who says he was always Clark Kent and never Superman, and that the New 52 Superman posed as him. Which is contradicted by everything we have seen in the DC Universe over the last five years.

But… does that mean anything? Dr Manhattan and/or Mr Oz seems to have taken a personal interest in the Superman situation. Could reality have been rewritten so that Superman never was Clark Kent ever? Apart from when he was pretending to be?

And if so, are people still buying that Superman could pretend to be someone by taking off his glasses and none of the person's friends or family notice?

And will no one see through the "Clark Smith" identity when this identical-looking Clark Kent is on national TV talking about it all?

Anyway, here is Clark Kent's new rewritten history from today's Action Comics #964… more Watchmen shenanigans? No alien crash landing, but still an orphan growing up in Smallville…

Remind me what Lois is meant to see in him again, now?
