Oculus' Palmer Luckey Potentially Exposed For Funding Donald Trump Internet Trolls

palmer_time_coverSo, remember when I said the story about previous employers suing Oculus wonderkid Palmer Luckey for essentially being fake might be one of the biggest stories in years? Well, it just took the most bizarre turn.

It The Daily Beast has revealed the guy has been financially supporting Nimble America, a pro-Trump organisation that gets its aggresively anti-Clinton rhetoric out by the way of internet memes. No, that isn't a joke. Here is what the group's introduction says:

We conquered Reddit and drive narrative on social media, conquered the [mainstream media], now it's time to get our most delicious memes in front of Americans whether they like it or not.

Luckey posted under the name NimbleRichMan, is Vice-President of the group and when asked how he got involved with the group, he posted:

It's something that no campaign is going to run. I've got plenty of money. Money is not my issue. I thought it sounded like a real jolly good time.

It seems he got involved with the movement when he met professional internet troll Milo Yiannopoulos, who was a liason for the group.

There is more to the story which is worth catching up on, but these are the broad strokes.

The question of who Palmer Luckey is is a fascinating right now, but this new story has sent me and the tech community through a loop. What a strange ol' world, and I wonder if this will actually ruin Luckey and possibly the Oculus brand. The real world implications will be very interesting to see playout indeed.
