"If You're A Fan Of Superior Spider-Man… Pick Up Amazing Spider-Man #18 Next Week" – Dan Slott On Clone Conspiracy

The Superior Spider-Man series saw Doctor Octopus kill Peter Parker and take his place in Parker's body and brain. After Parker regained his body, Octopus was transferred to the Living Robot, performing menial tasks within Parker Industries, unbeknown to anyone.

Maybe not for long.

In an online Marvel PR streaming thing, Dan Slott talked about the upcoming Clone Conspiracy story, saying,

Every issue of the Clone Conspiracy has an amazing revelation. Over in Amazing Spider-Man we'll have one and done stories expanding on these.

If you're a fan of Superior Spider-Man, you need to pick up Amazing Spider-Man #18 next week

as well as

"f one of your favorite runs of Spider-Man was Superior Spider-Man, you're not going to want to miss an issue of this.

The_Clone_Conspiracy_1_Preview_2He said a few other things as well… including how Ron Frenz would be returning to the character.

In Clone Conspiracy #1, there's a special back-up story drawn by legendary Spider-Man artist Ron Frenz that re-opens a big part of Spider-Man's history and it involves Gwen.

And more

The word 'clone' is the third rail of Spider-Man, and that's always the most fun place to be, dancing precariously toward the third rail. We know the word 'clone' makes most Spider-Man fans freak out, and we're leaning into that.

I grew up reading about The Jackal. There are so many things that make him the worst villain a hero could have. First, he's your creepy teacher from college. Then there's that you met him when he was cloning your dead girlfriend. That's super creepy!

While this is going on, Clone Conspiracy is the book you need to read. Amazing Spider-Man, Prowler, and Silk will tie in, but this is the main book.

In the past, Miles Warren has worn a green puffy suit, he's cloned Peter and Gwen, and that's it. Now he's got more going on, he's wearing an Anubis helmet and bringing people back from the dead.

One of the things about Spider-Man over the last 50 years is that a lot of people have died…and they might be coming back here

One of the most fun things I've done on this book is picking up old characters and coming up with new spins on them. Every character is somebody's favorite. We've had so much fun with Jackal, taking that stepping stone of a cloning mad scientist and running with it.

From the moment he was created, the thing about Spider-Man is that he's not a modern day god, he's the person down the street. We can do crazy things to Peter and he's always going to react the way people you know react. He's so human. And we all lose people–it's the most human thing of all. On some level, Spider-Man is you.

The_Clone_Conspiracy_1_Preview_4While editor Nick Lowe has a few bon mots of his own,

There are so many elements of this story that Dan has had to convince me over two years to let happen

The Prowler tie-ins will not only pick up pieces from Clone Conspiracy, but also Mark Waid and Chris Samnee's run on Daredevil. J. Jonah Jameson has been a big part of Silk and he's a core component of Clone Conspiracy. Jackal brought back Jonah's wife Marla, and his adopted daughter Mattie Franklin will be back as well, drawing Silk in.

One of the cool things we'll be doing is showing Gwen Stacy through a modern lens. She's a fascinating character in her own right.

This involves every supporting cast member of Spider-Man.

We are going to hold your hand, everything will be fine. We're going to hurt you with feelings, not continuity.
